I’ve had this for a couple of years now so have had chance to use it now and again. It started my wife’s (1.4L petrol) engine immediately when the car battery went flat, and again the next day, without a recharge in between. I had less luck trying to start the 2L petrol on a Mazda I had SORNed for two years during the pandemic - but it turned out the battery on that was completely gone (along with the bodywork of the car, sadly). So it definitely works for jump starts but it’s not going to provide you with a miracle. I have also taken this battery on a few camping trips. Its solid, rugged design makes it much better suited to tent life than are those slim portable batteries designed for business trips. It also has a decent torch built-in, and you can never have too many of them when you’re camping. I’d estimate it can recharge a modern iPhone from almost dead to full approx three times along with occasional use as a torch - so it can supply a family for a night or two, provided the kids are round the campfire not hiding in the tents on their iPads. You probably wouldn’t want to use it heavily for camping, as like any battery it may degrade to the point where the primary car start function fails, but it’s a nice bonus. I’m pleased with this purchase. It’s a handy device to keep in the boot of your car at all times and has the bonus capability of providing battery power outdoors. Even if you have other cars around, it’s easier to use this than traditional jump leads: you don’t need to move two cars close enough for the jump leads to reach, or open two car bonnets.

I'm writing this to reassure anyone like me, who is hesitating because of the negative reviews. They are rubbish - it does work. After many weeks sitting in the drive during lock down, my 2L diesel car would not start. The radio was working and the locks opened, but when I tried to stat the engine, the starter turned over slowly and then died completely. So the battery had enough power for the electrics, but not enough to start the engine. Trying to arrange someone to come and jump start it would have been difficult with lock down and social distancing, so one of these starters seemed like the perfect product. I looked at various models and brands, but they all had negative reviews. The NOCO was the one which looked most professional, but I was again put off by the many reviewers saying it was useless, didn't work, and in one case saying the RAC were laughing at it for being Mickey Mouse. If I had been relying on the Amazon reviews, I wouldn't have bought it. But I was telling a colleague about my car being dead, and it turned out they had this model, and they were raving about it. So I took the chance and bought this one (GB40) Well the negative reviewers are either lying, or didn't read the instructions.. It's not junk, it's not a toy, and it really works. I plugged it in to the wall when it arrived, and it was fully charged in a few hours. I didn't have time to take the car out for a drive that evening, so I just unplugged it and stuck it back in the box it came in. Next evening, I connected the cables to the car battery, still a bit unsure whether it would work. The instructions didn't really clarify what to expect, but it initially made a clicking noise and seemed to be trying to read the battery. However, from the instructions, I knew I would need to press the boost button, which I did (for the specified 3 seconds), and the white LED came on as detailed. Got into the car, turned the key, and bingo. It started first time. And the charging lights showed it was still green. It was great to be able to choose when I want to start the car up, instead of having to arrange a jump start with someone else. And given the situation with lockdown, it's nice to know I've got this on hand in case the same thing happens. I can see why my colleague was raving about it - you know how much of a hassle jump starting your own or someone else's car is...and this just makes the whole thing a doddle. And since it's so small, it feels a bit magic too! So do not be put off by the negative reviews. It was so easy to use and worked so reliably, I can't see why anyone would claim it's useless. I can only assume they didn't read the instructions (a hefty three or four simple paragraphs).

Ordered NOCO GB 40 March 2023 as a back up and had no use for it until recently in September 24. Car needed a jump start after elderly driver got housebound and we had a cold snap followed by storms. Amazingly, it worked first time but we had regularly topped up the battery on the charger every couple of months to make sure it maintained a charge for when we need it. I think if you let it discharge in a cold place you might struggle to get the NOCO to hold a charge again. I would also advise recharging it that same day to make sure it works when you need it. It is really easy to use and takes minutes rather than waiting hours for your breakdown cover to arrive and losing the no callout discount. I've used this twice so far and the first time it took 50% of battery pack charge to start car, but after recharging took significantly less out of the pack for the subsequent jump start where we recently went through a cold snap and storms. I advise giving it a minute when you connect it to give the battery a little charge (on mine there was a ticking sound that indicated something positive was going on) and then take it off immediately after the engine is running. Since then I've also bought a NOCO Genius 2 charger to keep the car battery in optimum condition when its not being used and found since there is no need to jump start. The NOCO GB 40 is a jump starter only it wont repair the condition of your battery you need a trickle charger for that.

So after using what was possibly a faulty OBD that coincidentally lowered the battery voltage within a few minutes of use on my 2016 Ford Mondeo 2.0l diesel to the point I had to get the AA out as my car wouldn't start. The AA guy gave my battery a health check , checked the charging system of the car and said it was all working fine but the battery volts were too low at 10v to start the car. He connected a booster pack and the car started with a single push of the starter button. He advised I drive the car for a good 40 minutes to charge the battery back up. Unfortunately, I didn't do that and although the car started fine the next day , I did do several short journeys and then didn't drive the car over the weekend. Went to go to work this morning and "click", the car wouldn't start with the battery light on the dash lighting up. Luckily, I had purchased this booster on Friday night from Amazon, it came Saturday, I charged it via one of the usb ports on our kitchen sockets until fully charged, about 3 hours. Got the opportunity to use it this morning, plugged on the jumper cable to the booster and the leads onto the battery, jumped into the drivers seat and pushed the starter button, car started instantly with no problem. I've driven about 200 miles today with one of the legs being around an hour and a quarter so hopefully the car battery has fully charged. If I need to use this regularly I think I'm going to have to buy a new car battery, but, we will see how it goes. As for this little box of tricks, very impressed, saved me calling out the AA again and having to hang around waiting, also saved me from cancelling a call to my first and second customer. Easy to use, saved me a load of hassle, very pleased with this. Thank you.

Absolutely worth it. Dont need another car as traditional jumpstart. Time saver. Works very well. Enough power for 1.5L engine.

I bought this to replace a 6 year old, 500A, £45, no-name brand USB jump starter that was still starting the engine first time but only giving me 2 jump starts before needing to be charged, when it previously managed around 10 jumps. Decided to go for Noco as they are so highly rated but should have listened to the bad reviews.... I got the pack fully charged and tried it out on my 2.0L Diesel which regularly goes flat as something drains the battery and it fails to start if not driven every day- really should get it sorted! The Noco failed to start the car twice in normal mode so I turned on the Boost/override mode. This just about got it started but sounded like it struggled. (I waited about 30 seconds each time before starting the car) When I disconnected the charger I noticed it was almost flat with the red light showing, which was quite surprising as it says up to 20 uses between charges. I re-charged the Noco and tried again 2 days later. It took 2 attempts in normal mode this time and drained the pack to 50%. While the Noco did manage to start my car, I am disappointed with the performance and capacity. No idea how anybody could get 20 jump starts out of this and I really doubt the 1000A claims as my old 500A pack started the engine much faster and more reliably- while also lasting much longer! I did research the Noco jump starters before buying and decided on this GB40 pack over the GBX range as the GB(non X) ones are supposed to hold charge longer and give more jumps per charge, so I would definately not recommend the GBX either based off this experience. The GB40 has also been updated/refreshed but the Amazon listing has some conflicting info- I received the new version which includes a USB-C in/out port and a USB-A out port but no 12V lighter socket port or attachment. It also includes a thin fabric carry pouch (useless), a USB-C to C cable (no charging plug included) and the jump leads, which are short but were fine for me. The older version has 2 USB-A ports (1 in/out the other just output), a USB-A to A cable and a 12V lighter socket charger. The USB-C input is 5V 2.1A so no fast charger needed, pretty much any USB capable of charging will support this nowadays. Battery says it is 24Wh. If charging a phone from the USB port @ 5V 2.1A this would give 4800mAh but you would lose some of that as it wouldn't be 100% efficient so not enough to give a full charge on most modern phones. The jump leads seem high quality and have a strong grip. Connecting the leads to the power pack is not as easy as with other jump starters- have to push it quite hard to get it in, and it is not super clear which way round it is supposed to go in as the hole/plug is round-ish with no obvious markings- you have to look at the shape of the terminals inside the plug and socket and match them up (one is round, the other square). Unfortunately the jump starter I was previously using is no longer being sold so I will have to return the Noco and give another brand a try.

Mit dem NOCO Boost GB40 bin ich sehr zufrieden. Das Gerät macht einen hochwertigen und durchdachten Eindruck und gibt ein gutes Gefühl, es im Auto dabeizuhaben. Gerade als Starthilfe ist so eine kompakte Lösung sehr praktisch, weil man im Ernstfall schnell reagieren kann, ohne auf fremde Hilfe angewiesen zu sein. Positiv ist außerdem, dass das Gerät handlich ist und sich gut verstauen lässt. Auch die Bedienung wirkt unkompliziert und alltagstauglich. Insgesamt ist das eine sehr praktische Kombination aus Starthilfe und Powerbank, die ihren Zweck zuverlässig erfüllt. Für unterwegs oder als Sicherheitsreserve im Auto aus meiner Sicht eine klare Empfehlung.

J'avais déjà testé ce produit au canada les professionnels travaillent quasiment tous avec la bas et je comprends pourquoi je viens de le tester sur une batterie de moto et elle a démarré littéralement en deux secondes, j'ai juste eu relier les câbles au boitier, connecter le tout a la batterie et appuier sur ON et la moto c'est rallumer directement. On sent la qualité du produit surtout dans les pinces cet achat est vraiment une valeur sur, je ne le regrette absolument pas. C'est rapide simple et efficace tout est fournit avec une petite house de rangement le seul défaut du produit est que la boite de rangement en version solide est vendue séparément et elle est un peu cher.
