Can I use this to trim beard without using the comb attachment?

If you use the trimmer without any of the attachments, it cuts hair down to a range between .08 and 2MM (you can change the length in .03mm increments: .08, .11, .14, .17. and .2). So if you are looking for your beard to be any of these lengths, then using this without any attachments works. Can't stress enough the high quality of this item.

You can rinse the cutting head but I don’t think the rest is waterproof
