Small and mighty
Superb compact bluray/dvd player, starts up quickly and works a treat. Picture is good quality. Takes a little while to set up to WiFi if you want to use all it's network settings but can use without. Great value for money.

Works out of the box
I purchased this to replace an aged Samsung bluray player. It was easy to set up and works well with both dvd and bluray discs. I have not bothered setting up WiFi as I have all the apps I need on the TV. I'm still stunned at how small it is and the quality of movie play back. I'm so impressed I'm ordering another one for my craft room

Sony Blu-ray Player
This is my first Blu-ray player, and so far I am impressed. It’s an excellent player, very compact and unobtrusive. As I am a novice to these, for me the bonus is that it really is all region, it plays NTSC as well as Pal discs. Whether this is standard I don’t know, but the inability to connect to BBC Iplayer, and that the app for it isn’t available on the player. That aside, it’s great value for money, and easy to set up. For a first Blu-ray player I couldn’t ask for more.

I have bought both the BDP 1700 and BDP 3700 and can categorically say they are both great blue ray players and are a credit to the quality of Sony. The player is quiet and loads discs quickly and efficiently. The interface is clean and simple to use and works well with the remote. The main Apps include Amazon, Netflix, BBCiplayer and Sonys own App which allows you to play certain ps3 games. On the BDP 3700 the wifi works well and connected without any issues. There are better ( and far more expensive) players out there, but for a standard smart blue ray player which is capable of Hi Definition 1180p then this is a fantastic buy. Both the BDP 1700 and BDP 3700 have DVD upscaling which means the player improves the quality of your standard definition dvdsI’ve read reviews saying this blu ray player does not have an AMAZON APP. Both of my players do, I have provided a photo to assure you it does.

Decent Blu-ray, dissapointing apps
I bought this believing that I could finally replace my dvd and smart tv stick with something that could do both and also be able to play Blu-ray discs. The DVD and Blu-ray playback was fine but then I looked into the available apps. According to the amazon website (as of 2019-04-29):"- Access over 300 online apps for catch-up TV like BBCiPlayer or Channel 5 and VoD like Netflix and many more- Enjoy PlayStation3 games streamed via the cloud without a console with PlayStation Now, giving more people the opportunity to experience the world of PlayStation "These claims together with blu-ray functionality for £80 sounded too good to be true - it was sadly. There are only 24 'apps' available on the device, they include:- PlayStation video (video streaming service, no gaming)- Prime video- Netflix- BBC iplayer- BBC news- BBC sport- Rakuten TV- Mubi- Stingray Qello- Yupp TV- WWE network- Green.tv- Youtube- uStudio- meteonews- tagesschau- DW news- Berliner Philharmoniker- 'information about Gracenote support ending'- Play Disc- Play USB- Screen Mirroring- Media server (UPnP/DLNA)- Activate enhanced features (which does nothing, even after you register the device)No idea why the last 6 are considered 'apps', but there you have it.There is no way to search for and download other apps. You can 'update services' which just ensures that the list of apps is the latest that Sony intends for the device (the 24 above). The local media server functionality was clunky at best. There is no way to bookmark favourite paths so browsing has to start from the top every time. Playback control was basic and there is no reliable way to skip forward or back (without risking the box crashing), best way was to fast forward from the start until the required point. Not all DLNA formats are supported either (i have 2 servers, one worked, the other did not). The final straw was what the box does when it isn't used. It seems that when the box is powered on it interferes with your TV reception so your digital TV channels have very poor picture and sound (lots of jitter and pixelated screens). So I switched it off and started the returns process with amazon.
