Shaping Things Up: STANLEY Surform Moulded Body Block Plane (155mm)
Alright, just snagged myself the STANLEY Surform Moulded Body Block Plane, and let me tell you, it's like the Picasso of smoothing things out. I'm no carpenter, just a person who occasionally needs to pretend I know what I'm doing with wood. First off, that 155mm size is just right – not too big to be unwieldy, not too small to feel like a toy. It's like the Goldilocks of block planes. I used it to tame a rough piece of wood for a DIY shelf, and now it's looking like something straight out of a Pinterest dream. The molded body feels like they've considered the human hand. It's like they asked, "Hey, how can we make this comfortable to hold for more than five minutes?" It might seem like a small thing, but when you're sanding away, that comfort goes a long way. The Surform action is where the magic happens. It eats through wood like it's on a mission. Smooth, consistent strokes without feeling like you're wrestling with the thing. I appreciate that it's not high maintenance – no complicated adjustments, just grab and go. Plus, it's surprisingly light. I can go at it for a while without feeling like I've just finished a workout. And the blade – sharp as heck. No need for a PhD in sharpening to get good results. Honestly, the STANLEY Surform is a game-changer for me. It makes smoothing out wood feel less like a chore and more like a satisfying art project. If you're into DIY and want a block plane that won't give you a headache, this one's a solid choice.

Good little device especially for the money
Pros:- Light; Good for shaving off small amounts of wood Cons:- Pretty hard work - you have to press quite hard and keep it clean. Good for edges - for instance if you are trimming a door to stop it sticking I found it best to angle trim the edge first and then move across the surface reducing the angle as you go. It would be - and is - hard work to traverse the whole door edge unless the wood is soft. It doesn’t work so well if you are trying just to take some measure of wood off a flat surface. Nevertheless it did what I needed and I got two previously jammed doors to close properly so it was definitely worth buying in my case.

Great Product!
Now that the colder weather has hit our bathroom door had swelled up slightly meaning it was hitting the doorframe. To say I am NOT a confident DIY'er would be a massive understatement so the thought of tackling it myself was giving me anxiety! After a bit of research online I found this 'rasp' solution meaning the door could be shaved down insitu. I read that a rasp was a better solution as a standard plane would get caught on the end grain. A couple of days after arriving I plucked up the courage to give it a go. I only wanted to shave a couple of millimetres off as once the colder weather goes the door will unswell (is that a word?) so I didn't want to be left with a big gap! I got to work with what is essentially a mini cheese grater! It is more than sharp enough to get the job done. I had shaved off enough for the door to open and close with out hitting the frame in no time. A brilliant quick and easy solution which has me questioning why I was so worried! Don't forget to repaint anything you shave off to protect the wood from moisture absorption, which helps prevents swelling, sticking, and rot!

Good sharp compact planer
Had to plain a little of a door and didn't want to spend big for a small job. This worked perfectly, easy to hold and sharp rasp type blade. Due to its compact size it can glog up although easy to clean out. **Recomend light smooth and log stokes for and even finish** Overall good value and recommended

Well
Yes what can i say this item is so good some one entered my home and stole it before i could use it. A piece of shinny kit. Ive had problems over 40 years with a former freemason police officer whom was envovled in armed bank raids whilst a member of West Midlands serious crime squad the Judge closed the squad down because it was envovled in serious crime. As a former special forces hes got other health issues and is volatile and dangerous police wont do a thing since hes one of their own. Top people . As a vice squad officer he was a pimp for a local prostitute. Hes also a Christian church pastor with the ability to walk on water give any one his own light for money of course. This item was so good i got 3 more from other sources to replace the one stolen.Like Warwickshire police say we dont want to know.

Perfect for a simple wood planing job
The bathroom door at my daughter's place was badly misshapen to the point where it was pretty much impossible to close it - and if you could force it shut, there was a good chance you'd never get it open again. A basic rasp/plane like this is ideal for the job - it is lightweight, easy to grip, and easy to use, even for my DIY-phobic eldest! The door was sorted in a few minutes, and she was impressed with her own abilities - maybe next time she won't need to ask dad for help! It's a simple, entry level tool, but it does what it's designed for and does it nicely.
