Quality product!
This rest is really built to last and fits my needs for bench rest shooting perfectly. Nice and heavy and very stable with the hard bottom as ordered.

Indispensable!
I learned of this brand of rear bag from some posts in a forum from a person who puts LOTS of effort into cataloging and processing and presenting information which is useful (thanks Molon). I had not been using a rear bag and decided to try one. "WOW" doesn't say it. This is awesome. It's very well made. It is a very nice bit of kit and that it's made in America is great. And this is cool: I hunt coyotes on my ranch and have for the last 6 weeks or so since I got a thermal scope. I hunt them at night and the wind direction is almost always N-S or S-N and where I sit is roughly perpendicular to the wind so my scent is not an issue. So, I sit in my truck where I'm protected from most of the wind and the cold. I raise/lower the window to adjust my rifle position and scan back and forth. Last night, my first hunt after getting this bag, I thought to put this bag on the window upside down on the glass (bunny ears straddling the glass)! It worked great as a rest/pivot for the rifle. I could scan, rest the rifle in my lap while the handguard was sitting on the bottom of the bag, repeat with no problems. My homemade bag would often fall off (almost always out of the truck, of course), but this thing stayed in place nicely. Very nice and the price seems too cheap for the quality I feel I received. I won't be bench shooting without it after this.

Quality!
this shooting bag is like a boot like a high-quality boot. It has a nice soul, nice smooth leather with great stitching. My father was impressed. He’s actually going to buy one now and I would buy it again. It’s a better pack. I’m going to buy another one right now.

Tough to beat at this price!
This is a nice, high quality rear bag, filled with good sand, for a great price. I'd bet that the most commonly used shooting bags are those made by Caldwell, simply due to price. So this review will contain comparisons to a Caldwell bag. Since I mentioned price, I'll also mention that I purchased the pictured Caldwell bag through Amazon for $30. And I purchased this Protektor Model bag through Amazon for $34. So, there was only a $4 difference in price between the two. That extra $4 will get you nice, thick leather with quality stitching. It will get you a thick, firm base. The ears are filled independently of the base. And it will get you a quality sand fill. In comparison, the Caldwell bag uses a combination of soft suede, canvas fabric, and thin vinyl. The base is soft. The ears and base are not separated. And Caldwell fills their bags with regular play sand. Both bags arrived a little over-filled. This is not a fault of the product, it's intentionally done by the maker. It's better to have sand and not need it, than to need sand and not have it. The base section of the Protektor Model bag came filled just how I like it, but the ears contained too much sand. Upon removing some fill from the ears, I was surprised to see that it contained black chromite sand. Now, if you're unfamiliar with different types of sand, as most people are, chromite sand is a heavier, higher quality fill for a shooting bag. Most often, bags that come pre-filled will contain play sand (the same stuff your kids play in at the park). Chromite sand is much more dense than play sand, and is used by serious benchrest shooters. Pretty cool that this bag already contains it, especially at this price. The Caldwell bag contained play sand, and was so over-filled that the seams were stretching apart. About a tablespoon of sand had leaked out in to the bag it was wrapped in. Since the Caldwell bag does not fill the ears and base separately, I drained some sand to my liking, and mashed the bag around until the ears had enough fill in them. When the ears don't have enough fill, simply turn the Caldwell bag over and let some fill back in them. It's a constant issue. The base of this Protektor Model bag has a thick plastic layer to ensure it sits flush on a shooting bench. Without this type of base, shooting bags tend to become more of a round shape, making them less stable on flat surfaces. My Caldwell bag is a good example of what I'm talking about. It's more round and I'm constantly having to mash it in to the desired shape. Finally, the Protektor Model bag uses high quality REAL leather. It's stitched using strong nylon threads. When used properly, you should never have a problem with the quality of the materials used in this bag. Years down the road when the leather has stretched a little, simply add back some of the sand you drained from it when it was new. For this reason, I always save the sand I relieve from shooting bags. In comparison, the Caldwell bag uses a combination of what appears to be suede leather for the bottom of the base, a canvas material for the sides of the base, and a very thin vinyl-ish material for the top and ears. I suspect it's an attempt keep the bottom from wearing, the sides from stretching, while making the top surface slick. It's very unlikely this bag will last as long as the Protektor Model bags, as the seams were already stretched to the point of leaking sand when I received it.Included are some pictures comparing the two bags described. I shake white powder on them to make them slicker, so that's not anything to worry about. I hope these better demonstrate how the quality of materials used directly affects the shape and functionality of the bags.

Worthless. Even though the quality is great, the rear bag fails at its core to properly support a butt-stock. Im using this with a modern Savage 10fp in 308.

Best bag I have had or seen for under $100
I had tried a number of bags, including some of friends, and the only ones I liked where well over $100. This Protektor #13A bag suits me fine and it has a great price. Besides being well made with excellent materials, the model I bought was filled, and I have never seen a bag filled so full - it simply does not move and retains it shape perfectly. It may not be as suitable if you plan to squeeze the bag to change elevation more than just a bit, but in that case you could let some of the filler out. Make sure to buy his model, which has the harder thicker base.Added May 2014 - Not long after using the subject bag, I bought another similar Protektor bag of the same configuration and features, BUT with a new silver material for the ear covers. Their new 'silvery' material is extremely slick. I had been powdering the original bag so the rifle stock would slide easily . . . well, the new material is way slicker without anything added to it. Another superb bag from Protektor. (And higher F-T/R scores as well!)

Well-made
Not sure why it didn’t come filled with sand, definitely a nuisance. I’m lucky that I had a friend with black magic sand, which is probably superior to what they’re putting in it anyway. I don’t think it was an error on my part, but be certain to check if there is a choice of sand or no sand!

Rear Bag
So far this is the best Rear Bag i've used for precision rifle shooting. Nothing else i have tried holds steady as this Protektor bag.
