Does the usb follow rs232 wiring protocol? i’m hoping this eliminates buying 2 cables: rj12 to 9 pin and a 9 pin to usb with ftdi cable.

Tech answer: Not really. The driver interface of this chip does follow the RS232 Protocol however, the voltage read out is limited to +5V if your device uses true RS232 wiring then this device will not work. True RS232 wiring has a reversed(voltage shift) voltage that ranges from -15v to +15v (3V min register). In short, unless your device only needs RXD/TXD/GRD within 0 to +5V don't expect it to work.

Will this cable allow me to connect a headset with mic (Plantronics CO52) to my computer to?

no, it is a usb to RS232 serial adapter with rj12 interface. It only applies to data communication. Not used for audio transmission.

We confirm that this is the RJ12 interface cable. The RJ12 interface corresponds to a 6-core cable. But we only used 4 touch points of RJ12 interface . So that it can be compatible with 6P4C

Works as advertised

I bought this to reset the admin password and the networking on an APC 7932 PDU. The USB-to-RJ12 showed up as a COM port on my laptop. Although I did have to go and download/install the drivers for it myself, it worked like a charm. I'm very pleased with the results.
