Thule 690202 Ocean 200 Glossy Roof Box, Black

As I was buying a roof box for the first time, I found it very difficult to gauge the correct size of roof box for the size of my car. I found that the Ocean 200 was the perfect size for my Hyundai Tucson. I think whatever size of roofbox you think it big enough, order the next size up. Once you get it on the roof, it looks a lot smaller than you expect. I actually ordered the Ocean 100 to start with, but cancelled and ordered the Ocean 200 based on one of the other reviews which showed how the box looks quite small once on the car. Here’s a few things I found when buying and installing the Ocean 200 which wasn’t obvious before I started: 1. The entire unit is made of plastic which makes it light and fairly flimsy. That said, once it’s bolted onto the rails, it’s solid and stable. Build quality is good and the glossy black finish looks great. 2. The locking mechanism requires all 3 points to be firmly closed before you can lock it. Just make sure you press down firmly on all 3 points before trying to turn the lock. I struggled for a few minutes before I figured this one out. 3. If you have a larger car then reaching the nuts to tighten the box down on the rails on the drivers side can be difficult. I found that opening the passenger’s side door and standing on the sill was better than using a stepladder on the driver’s side. Overall I'm very happy with this, and Amazon gave the best price by quite a big margin and of course with free delivery on Amazon Prime.

Really pleased with this, build quality is fine, the unit is a little "wobbly" but it's very quick to fix to roof bars and light enough that you can lift and remove it on your own (by standing on the door sills). Fixes very securely and includes 2 luggage straps to stop things moving around inside. Central locking mechanism works well and it makes very little extra noise, even at 70mph. Guess £250 for what is just a lump of plastic could be considered expensive but it does the job well. Can't comment on waterproof-ness, yet... Given the mounting mechanism you are left with some holes on the bottom. They provide some "sticky plasters" to cover up the holes but I'd guess if you had major bad weather you might get some water in. We shall see...

Great and adds beauty to my black vitara. My Car becomes an eye catching. Cons. A bit noisy especially when travelling at strong winds.

Bought this roofbox along with some Thule wingbars to expand our space when camping now we have 2 dogs and an insane amount of kit because I've not long changed my car and am not going to get a trailer. Roofbox was easy enough to fit and take off (needed 2 people ideally as is a bit tricky to lift onto the car as it weighs 14kg). Loads of space inside for lots of kit. It looks really sleek on the car and I haven't noticed a significant increase in fuel consumption other than when driving long distances on the motorway. It's quiet and I barely notice it's on the roof! Only fiddly part is reaching over to attach the side furthest from you once it's on the bars to secure it in place as I have short arms! Overall, a fantastic buy. You get what you pay for - this is a durable box and have used it on a few camping trips now packed to capacity and it's served us well in all weather!

Good roof box, amazing how much luggage you can fit in it. Also very quite, actually didn't notice any noise from the roof box or bars on the motorway. Bought for a 2007 Honda CRV with Cruz Airo roof bars, fits perfectly. Note: When the lid is open it feels a little flimsy but once closed it's very sturdy and secure.

Bit flimsy and the locking mechanism doesn't feel too robust but overall, looks good, easy to fit and you get plenty in there.

Well made and sturdy with plenty of room for a family of 4. Everything this feels really high quality, as to be expected with the Thule brand.

I was really happy when I received my roof box. I then installed it on my car. This is when it went wrong after attaching it to the roof of my car I closed it and turned the key to lock but then my key wouldn’t come out. It turned fine but wouldn’t come out. I did contact the seller which they advised me to take it to Thule dealer. Unfortunately this doesn’t help me as I don’t have one near me and I didn’t buy of a Thule dealer. So very disappointed
