You do the math with stock SATA II 5400RPM dates back to 2011 you are getting max 8MB/s buffer size and 108MB/s transfer waits....its a no brainer. **Q: migration software hardware?** A: I just upgraded 256gb drive in my Dell Inspiron Windows 10 home to 1tb. Sandisk/WD has a lot bugs to work out in software and is way behind Samsung. While I managed to finish here are some tips for others: 1.The paper that comes with the drive points to a website that only has the sandisk Ssd dashboard. It is only useful after you have upgraded. But install anyway. 2. Need to download the Acronis true image software from WD site (http://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?p=119) 3. Need to have a SATA to USB dongle (eg. https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATA-USB-Cable-USB3S2SAT3CB/dp/B00HJZJI84). Connect the new drive to this and plug in usb to the system you want to upgrade. 4. Run acronis. First time it said it doesn’t support any drive in my system. I terminated and restarted Acronis. This time it found the usb drive. 5. I chose automatic clone. It is buggy. It is supposed to scale up the data partition to higher capacity. But it kept the same 256gb for data and the small unused 500mb partition in the original was made to 750GB :) 6. I then used windows format drive management control panel app (type format in window search), to delete the unused 750GB partition and expanded the 256GB partition. 7. Opened the laptop and swapped the hard disks.. That did it for me. **Q: Any 2.5" ssd will work in any laptop that takes a 2.5" drive. they also will work in any desktop tower or imac okay?** A: Be careful with the iMac. If you have an earlier dual drive (HDD + SSD) I think it will fit in place of the original (2010-2011) but the later models have module type SSDs. It can replace the HDD in any, but you MUST have the special temperature sensor kit from OWC (macsales.com) but it's available on Amazon. Just search iMac temperature sensor or similar. **Q: will this fit in desktop** A: Of course. It's smaller than a 3.5" which is what you have now most likely. You may want to get a mounting bracket for it though as most 2.5" SSD drives don't come with one but you can certainly plug it in and just set in in the floppy bay as well. They're so light and usually plastic anyway so unless you literally kick or drop your oc very hard it isn't going to come unugged lol.
