Would this be bright enough to use in a shed?

As a main light I think it would be a little under powered, as a search light, great. However, I do love this light, it is bright but you would need 2 in a shed, one for either side, job done....The batteries last for ages, and it is so versatile, very lightweight to hold, good hook and magnets for attaching to solid items. I have 3 of these, 1 each for my grandkids when they sleep over, and 1 for reading at night.

Can you help, do you have an idea of how long the batteries actually last for until the light stops working?

I have just replaced the batteries that I put in in July 2017. They weren't totally gone, but were somewhat dimmer.

The quoted dimensions seem to be for the packaging. How long is the actual light, excluding hook?

The length including hook is 265mm
