![Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology 1989-1997 [Blu-ray] [1989]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41H-vpvnE1L.jpg)

Box set containing four films from the popular 'Batman' film series. 'Batman' (1989) was the first big screen outing for Bob Kane's caped crusader. The streets of Gotham City are no longer safe for criminals, who are being picked off by a masked vigilante in a rubber suit - dubbed 'Batman' by the press. Reporter Alexander Knox (Robert Wuhl) teams with photographer Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger) in an attempt to discover Batman's true identity - an investigation which leads them to the door of mysterious millioniare Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton). Meanwhile, crime boss Carl Grissom's (Jack Palance) attempt to rid himself of untrustworthy henchman Jack Napier (Jack Nicholson) does not go according to plan, and after emerging physically - and mentally - disfigured from a vat of chemicals, Napier reinvents himself as the psychotic Joker. In 'Batman Returns' (1992), Oswald Cobblepot was abandoned by his parents as a baby. Thirty three years later, bent on revenge, he returns to Gotham City as the Penguin (Danny DeVito). First he begins a warped campaign to become Mayor, helped by millionaire businessman Max Shreck (Christopher Walken); next, he undertakes a mission to murder every first born son in Gotham - a plan which will avenge his own beginnings. Meanwhile, he has two adversaries to contend with: Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer), the embittered ex-secretary of Max Shreck, and, of course, the old caped crusader himself (Keaton). In 'Batman Forever' (1995), former District Attorney Harvey Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) is terrorising Gotham City, when a new villain appears on the scene - the Riddler (Jim Carrey). Together they plot to discover Batman's (Val Kilmer) identity, using a device which can probe the human mind. Meanwhile, the caped crusader has been joined by Robin (Chris O'Donnell), whose trapeze-artist family have recently been slain by Two-Face. 'Finally, in 'Batman and Robin' (1997), Batman (George Clooney) and Robin (O'Donnell) have to stop the vengeful Mr Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from taking over Gotham City by using his new ice weapon. To make matters worse, the venomous Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman) decides to join forces with Freeze, so making an almost undefeatable double-whammy of a team. Luckily for the caped crusader and his rebellious ward, they can team up with a new tough and courageous new partner - Batgirl (Alicia Silverstone). Review: Fantastic Batman Blu-ray set. - The Batman movies released between 1989 and 1997 are undoubtedly a mixed bag in terms of quality, but are still an essential part of any fan's collection, This Blu-ray box-set comprises 1989's excellent 'Batman', it's worthy follow-up 'Batman Returns' (1992), the underrated 'Batman Forever' (1995) and the painfully camp and cheesy, but still entertaining 'Batman and Robin (1997). The picture and sound quality of all four films is superb and a vast improvement on their DVD counterparts. But what really makes this collection shine is the impressive array of extras, with each disc boasting documentaries, featurettes, profiles, trailers and music videos. The version of the box-set now being supplied has the discs housed in a single Blu-ray case with the basic artwork shown. While not as aesthetically pleasing as the original set (which had four individual cases, housed in a sturdy box with a shiny Batman logo), it is much more practical in size and cuts down significantly on waste too. The Batman Motion Picture Anthology Blu-ray box-set is fantastic value for money and absolute must-have for all fans of the caped crusader. Highly recommended. Review: the best series! - i for one am of the few people that hated the new Batman series, the Dark Knight, i seriously did not like that, it's a regular action movie and has nothing else than other movies out there at the moment, these Batman filmes from the 80s and 90s, although cheesy, make you feel like you're in a real fantasy world and not where we actually live and they do seem like real comics translated into films, i really loved these when i was a kid and i had to own them on blu ray now, the quality is AMAZING, seriously, you would not believe these films go back to almost 25 years ago! a big plus for me is that the discs are Region A and B (i don't know about C) and i live in Mexico so it's great that the dubbing also comes in Mexican Spanish so i can play it to my nephews, it has a lot of subtitles for many languages too! great purchase at a great price!

2 classics 2 duds good price
I have to say I purchased this item for about £11 nearly a year ago. I love comic book movies and so had to have this. I remember Batman when it was released but was to young to go to my local cinema to watch it but was quick to get the video and watched it over and over again. Then time goes by and you forget these movies it was with the release of Batman Begins that I dusted off the old VHS and watched again. About the Blu Ray the transfer's are pretty good with Batman and Batman Returns looking just as good as the other 2 efforts. Speacial features are a little light but thats not to much of a problem. Infact the only problem is the films themselves. The 1989 Batman and 1992 Batman Returns both directed by Tim Burton are awsome Micheal Keaton is amazing as the dark and moody Batman as well as the quirky Bruce Wayne and Jack Nicholson's Joker is one of the greatest and most physcotic movie villains ever. The film is dark with lots of atmosphere with a good story and supporting characters with brilliant set pieces and quality special effects for its time. 3 years later Keaton returned as Batman this time forming a strange aliance with Michelle Peiffer's Catwoman and taking on Dany Devito's maniacle Penguin. As with the prievious movie this is quality stuff and while the Penguin is not up there with the Joker Devito does extremly well. This is just as good as the original. Sadly then it all went wrong Batman Forever was the beginning of the end I dont know what went on but Tim Burton was still there but Keaton was gone and with it the brooding troubled Batman was gone. Val Kilmer gets the mask and cape to take on Jim Carrey's Riddler who is more annoying then anything and Two Face played by Tommy Lee Jones Two Face is ok but add to this Chris O' Donnell's Robin and the film is worth watching once but its not in the same class as the other two. Then comes Batman and Robin add Mr Freeze Poison Ivy Batgirl and unhinge your brain and its watchable. Not as bad as Batman Forever but not far off. In closing if you can get it for a good price its worth for the first 2 movies and you may watch the others once. But it will be the Keaton classics you will probably watch over and over.

Brilliant Great Films and Awesome Extras
What surprised me about this collection of the four original Batman films were the extras. Quite amazing. Most were made around 2005 and were quite extensive. The "Batman Beyond" featurettes were fascinating, lasting in total about an hour for each film. Also there is the documentary "Shadow of the Bat", spread over the 4 discs, which in total is over 2 and a half hours. If you love the extras, as i do, then this is as good as it gets. Superb collection.

FANTASTIC VALUE / GR8 FILMS
THIS IS A GR8 FILM PACKAGE FOR LESS THAN YOUR WEEKLY BREAD BILL . THE ONLY THING WHAT LET'S IT DOWN IS THE CRAPPY DOLBY DIGITAL SOUNDTRACK . THE FIRST BATMAN MOVIE HAS THE DTS HIGH MASTER SOUNDTRACK. THE REST ARE DOLBY WHICH CLEAR CONTAIN CLICKS & SPEECH DEFECTS. NO IT'S NOT MY EQUIPMENT OR EARS. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY DOLBY IS STILL BEING USED TODAY. AS IN MY OPINION IT'S GARBAGE. I E-MAILED DOLBY ABOUT THIS EARLY LAST YEAR & THEY WERE TO IGNORANT TO REPLY . TYPICAL. THE PICTURE QUALITY OF THESE MOVIES IS SO MUCH BETTER WHEN PLAYED AT THEIR NTSC RESOLUTION OF 480P . HIGH DEFINITION IN MY OPINION IS COMPLETE HYPED UP BOL**** YOU GET PLENTY OF EXTRAS BUT NOT 15 HOURS AS STATED ON THE PACKAGING ! BATMAN FOREVER IS THE BEST OF THE 4 MOVIES. BATMAN & ROBIN IS THE WORST. THE BEST BATMAN WAS VAL KILMER WHO IF HE HADN'T OF BEING FILMING THE SAINT WOULD OF RETURNED IN BATMAN & ROBIN . GEORGE CLOONEY REPLACES VAL KILMER IN BATMAN & ROBIN & WENT DOWN AS A TURD IN A SWIMMING POOL . MICHAEL KEATON (1ST 2 FILMS) WAS ALSO AN EXCELLENT BATMAN. SHAME ABOUT CLOONEY & DOLBY DIGITAL BUT EVERYTHING CAN'T BE PERFECT !
