Better Preamps
I already own the H4n but I found that I never really used it because the preamps weren't great which meant I would get a lot of hiss on my recordings (most people would barely notice it). As I was editing video, listening and watching the same bit of footage a lot it got quite annoying.I bought the zoom H5 because of the updated preamps and so far I'm really happy with the quality of recordings. I love the fact that the gain controls are physical disks rather than menu driven or buttons. There aren't any guitar effects on the H5 just compressors and low pass filters but that's all I need. It's easy to operate and has one touch record which is better than the h4n as it inlvolve hitting the record button twice. The H5 also has a back up recording facility in case you put the gain too high whilst recording if the main clips the back up records at -12db below the original so at least you've got something to work with.Overall it's a big upgrade for me it's still not hiss free but a little noise reduction fixes that.

Zoom H5 and accessory pack. Good value for money.
I’m a field recordist, but not an audio professional. I’ve been using an H2n for years now. The H5 is much quieter and cleaner in terms of reproduction, possibly because the preamps are better. The physical buttons make it easier to use, but it’s much bigger and chunkier so is more obvious to people around you. That said, it’s still small enough and light enough to be considered a “pocket recorder.” The accessories are very good value. For work outside,a windsock is essential and this alone would cost over £30 from a specialist supplier like Rycote..

Poor design and construction on the mount screw
Does not have the live effects option like the Zoom H4N just 2 standard effects compressor and limiter from what i can see. I have the Zoom H1 and from the memory card i would say they both sound the same. Also when you put the wind jammer over the mics it covers the level adjuster i have to loosen it pull it up and adjust it every time.Another problem is the mount screw on the bottom does not have smooth plastic around it so when you use a cold shoe mount it don't sit flush with the bottom and this makes it hard to tighten it. I can also see an exposed red wire in a hole on the inside of the mount screw.

Smaller, faster, stronger - with a useless bit that comes off at the top... unless you buy accessories.
This is exactly like the H4N, except you can take the top bit off and spend more money to buy different attachments. I'd stick to the H4n and buy real mics instead.Sound quality is excellent though, no complaints. Would've been nice to be able to change angle from 90 to 120 like you can in H4n, but to be honest it doesn't really make much difference. If you're looking for precise recordings you'll be using external mics anyway.

Great value and quality.
Fantastic piece of recording equipment. Great sound quality with supplied microphone capsule, and having the additional line in sockets makes this into a truly useful digital recorder. Great value, easy to understand and use. There are lots of clear guides available online, and I had it up and running quickly, including using phantom power and external microphones. Very pleased with this recorder - highly recommended for interviews, general recording, and especially for additional sound for video. It's easy to use this by copying audio from the SD card and syncing it with your video project.

Sound quality is amazing
This has changed my YouTube channel so much. I can record even in very windy situations. The sound quality is amazing. Easy to use. For the techies an amazing amount of info in the manual that I don't understand. But still easy for a new person to use. Best product in bought for years.

Broken after 15 months
I was hoping this recorder would be robust and reliable but after 15 months at a job it suddenly wouldn't turn on. The start up display comes on for a few seconds then the unit turns off. Must be a design fault...
