A reliable shaving soap with a great lather.
I’ve used the Proraso Shaving Soap in a Bowl several times now, and it has become one of my favourite shaving products. The scent is fresh and classic without being overpowering, and it gives a really clean, traditional shaving experience. The soap builds a rich, creamy lather very easily with a brush, and it provides excellent glide and protection during shaving. It leaves my skin feeling smooth and comfortable afterwards, with very little irritation even when used regularly. I also like the bowl format, which is convenient and easy to use, and the soap seems to last well, so it offers good value for money. A little goes a long way, and the quality has been consistent every time I’ve bought it. Overall, this is a reliable shaving soap with a great lather, a pleasant scent, and excellent performance. I’d happily recommend it and will definitely keep buying it.

Proraso Green (Menthol)
In my opinion this shaving soap has a nice fresh menthol scent to it. I found it incredibly easy to load using a boar hair shaving brush due to the fact that it is a cross between a shaving soap and a shaving cream. It is so soft you can push your finger through it. On the first pass my initial reaction was that the menthol scent was there but, I couldn’t feel the cooling sensation you would expect. However after removing a layer of hair and re-lathering for my second pass the cooling sensation was very strong and quite enjoyable. On my third pass it was like ice. After three passes with my straight razor, the Proraso green provided great cushion, slickness, scent and cooling sensation for my shave. The post shave feeling left my face feeling fresh and protected. I used post shave balm just in case as I have sensitive skin but, this is in no way criticizing the post shave feel of the soap it was just me being cautious. The ingredients in this soap did not irritate my skin after the shave however, if you are not willing to risk it I know they do a white version specifically for sensitive skin. I do recommend you try this as it is a great soap and it did not have an effect on my sensitive skin. I have taken a picture of the ingredient list in an attempt to answer some of your sensitive skin questions. I tested this soap with both hard and soft water. It liked the soft water a lot more than the hard however it was excellent with both. I tried shaving with a shavette, straight razor and double edged razor. It felt protecting and slick with both. This soap has impressed me and I will be purchasing a Proraso red (sandalwood) soap next to give that a try. The soaps I have used in the past are Arko shave stick, Palmolive cream and shave stick and the Wilkinson Sword blue tub (let's never speak of this one again). It provided a similar lather to the Arko maybe a little bit slicker and it definitely smelled better. The slickness was similar to the Palmolive shaving cream and the cushion was similar to the Palmolive shave stick. I’m not sure if these comparisons mean anything to you but it never hurts to share experience with fellow wet shavers regardless.

Good, low price shaving soap (with bowl!)
Much better than some of the other shaving creams I've used. Get a good brush and soak it in hot water, and this lathers up nicely. The best part is that it comes in it's own bowl, so you dont need to invest in a soap bowl. I get a good shave with this. It dries out a little quickly compared to some higher fat soaps, but a quick reapplication sorts that out.

Good lather = good shave
Good shaving soap: harder than some other soaps so requires a bit more lathering in the bowl but creates excellent creamy foam that helps deliver smooth, slick shave. Isn’t wearing down quickly (per previous point) so looks a good buy given it is markedly cheaper than other soaps that are no better IMO.

Wow....... fresh
Like many items available through Amazon, I'd always advise people to add things to wish lists and keep an eye on the price. Couldn't resist this at £2.70 for 150ml tub, and very pleased I ordered when I did. The soap itself is excellent in my opinion, and well worth trialling if you are considering. Having limited experience of shaving soaps, I can only compare to a Wilkinson sword tub, and an Arko stick. It is certainly the softest soap of the 3, but don't think of it as like a cream. It lathers really well, and the smoothness of the shave matches or even surpasses the Arko. The scent whilst shaving is very fresh and invigorating, but don't underestimate the "cooling" sensation, some may actually find it a little too much. During shaving it does seem to possibly need a little more water adding when soaping further passes, and it does seems to leave a stickier film on blade during shaving. However my skin does feel really good after using this Proraso. In conclusion I'd say at £2.70 for 150gm this was a huge bargain. On balance it's probably the best shaving soap I've tried yet, and "invigourating" adds to the shaving experience. .....so 10/10. Arko bowls actually look to cost more than this does at normal £4-£5 price, so this Proraso wins there too, but a 75g Arko stick can cost as little as £1, is more environmentally friendly when used up.......so 9.5/10 It's close but this wins.

A luxurious shave
This is remarkable. For men who embrace the ceremony of shaving, the soap is critical. The foam should be luxurious but consolidated. It serves little purpose if it's too light and frothy, or cluggy and doesn't adhere to the stubble properly. This is where shaving cream in a can falls short, and a brush and soap are best. I've tried various shaving soap bars, most British in source (or claim), and most did the trick to a degree. I started using the Proraso pre-shave cream a while back when I couldn't find the British equivalent of a pre-shave cream I used called Prep, and was already using the Proraso Wood & Spice After Shave balm, so I thought I'd give the shaving soap in a bowl a go. I am so glad I did. It is next-level luxurious, and when worked in with the shaving brush, the menthol and eucalyptus oil make it cool and soothing. The foam is not frothy like some soap bars produce; it is cream-like. This improves the actual shave. Combined with the other two Proraso products mentioned, I now have a go-to kit that makes shaving a pleasure instead of a chore.

A quality product.
Good lather, thick marshmallow cream produced. Looks like it will last ages. A 30 second whip up in tub, transfer to bowl and a further vigorous whip up in that and you get masses of cream. Enough to get a 3 times shave session (seasoned shavers will know why you can do a 3 shave) no smell, feels good on skin. Washes off great, same on shaver. No sticky residue. This brand is (imho) one of the better brands. E

An exceptionally quality Barber's Soap
I am about a year into using barber soap and a safety razor, and my previous soap was good but nothing compared to this one. The product smells very nice, especially when applied with warm water but the most favorable quality is the lather the soap makes. The soap is softer than most that I've had and maybe got a little melted on its way to to me, but if it did go from Italy to the States I completely understand. That exact quality lets your shave brush work the soap to get the lather you want and then the components inside make it a much much more nice soap for your skin. I have had sensitive skin for quite some time and safety razor shaving with bar soap has been my lifesaver. I'm still learning but the soap and its agents allow smooth and close cuts that refresh your skin. So much so that I even felt confident trying to shave against the grain (this was a mistake, do not do that) The bright red cherry on top is that this comes in its own container so you don't need a mug or bowl. This is definitely the soap I would start with as it's a great shave and good value.

Awesome product. Its really as good as they say!
I initially did not like this product as i was used to the soft, creamy texture of the Taylor Of Old Bond Street shaving creams which i have used exclusively for some time. This product looks very "dried out" when you open it up in comparison to the TOBS products and initially i though that i had a faulty product. Not so! That's the way it's meant to be! However, once you follow the instructions and use it correctly you will find that it's absolutely awesome! The scent is great with a nice strong hint of a menthol. The scent is not too overpowering but not so subtle that you can't smell it once you have finished shaving. In my opinion it's the perfect balance. The lather is awesome; as good as, if not slightly better than the lather from the TOBS that i am used to. Once you have "bloomed" the cream and then applied a little to the brush it whips up into the most awesome thick rich creamy lather in seconds. Once on the face the razor glides thru the richness of the lather with ease as it has a really nice slickness. No wonder it has been Italy's favorite shaving cream for generations. While i still love the softer, creamier TOBS shaving cream products i will be adding this one into the rotation along with the rest of my regular TOBS shave creams as it's just too nice to not use. Now it's got me wanting to try all the other Proraso versions! Buy with confidence. Its awesome!!

Top!
