Works effectively, used on wrought iron gate, had to modify the runner as needed to use screws to hold that went into metal. Just wish runner bar was metal not plastic as will eventually degrade due to weather.

Had years of asking my daughter to close the living room door. I decided to solve the issue by getting closer. Color blends in well with out decor. Very easy to fit however, I do need a bit more tension but I feel if I turn the bar another notch it may damage it. That said, the door does close but not fully because of the door handle catch is stiff so it's stopping it. Another slight niggle is, when the door closes, it does make a very slight rubbing noise when the bar slides along the plastic guide attached to the door. Not a deal breaker but it's there. Over all I'm happy, no more arguments and my thermostat in the hallway on the other side of the door now has a more constant temperature to work with lol

Very efficient device, works very well Only criticism is the screws could be stronger, even when screwing into medium hard WOOD, the final screw head broke away. fortunately the other three held the main body into place.

Does what it claims, but disappointingly noisy in operation. It makes a sound like grinding metal when the core rotates. Also the supplied screws are poor quality - the head stripped on the first one I tried to drive home and I had to remove it with a monkey wrench.

Fairly easy to attach but noisy and doesn't fully close an easy-swinging fire door, even at tightest setting. Now buying a different type.

I bought this to replace a garden gate spring that I bought from B&Q that exploded into bits as I tried to fit it to the gate. That was utter junk. This gate closer is far higher quality and I wish I had gone for this originally. The packaging says that the spring mechanism is weather proof and can be used outside. You need a certain level of strength to set the spring without breaking your fingers. WARNING: the piece of plastic that is intended to be used as guide for the spring bar is not compatible with WD40 and probably not other solvents. After I fit the spring, I thought I'd spray a little WD40 on the guide to ease the sliding of the bar. The result was that the plastic guider went brittle, cracked and fell apart. No worry though - I just replaced it with a metal plate for the bar to slide on and all works fine. Probably better.

From 2 stars to 5 stars with two simple and cheap modifications. First, do not use the screws supplied with the unit, they are cheap and poor quality. You might get them screwed in without destroying the cross-heads, but will never get them out. I managed to remove them by brute force without damaging the door too much. Second, dismantle the unit, taking care to keep the parts in the right position and order, (the springs have different sized locating legs). Then loosely pack the inside of the unit with grease and re-assemble. The unit now works perfectly and silently. Why don't manufacturers read reviews?

Drill the holes got the screws. Use a screwdriver to screw up tight NOT a power tool as screws are cheap and will burr very easily.

Bought this doorcloser for an inner door. Not all the reviews are positive about the supplied screwsso i installed it with better screws just to be sure. The Guiderail is not long enough according to some but if you install the spring-unit close to the hinges it should be good. Tensioning is a bit off a fiddle if the door is sunk deep in its post. Then you can use a extra tensioning arm beside the one which is supplied, an 8x80 mm bolt will do the job. Used it one week sofar and i am happy with it. Seems simple and robust enough.....
