What a versatile and (genuinely) natural cleaning product
I have had these for a couple of weeks now. Very quickly I decided that a few nuts in the little bag was not going to work for me - kept losing the bag in the washing. Today I decided to see just how versatile and easy to use they are. I took 30 soap nuts. I would say that that was about 100g, so at current prices £1.09 worth. I poured approx 1 litre of boiling water on them and then 'cooked' them in the microwave for 5 minutes. I had seen that it is recommended that you boil on stove for 15 minutes, but it was fine. Be careful - it may boil over - then you are able to clean your microwave! I drained off the liquid and mixed it with 2 teaspoons of xanthan gum, juice and pulp of 2 lemons and about 50 ml of glycerine. I used a hand blender and the resultant mixture was thick and sand coloured. I think that it smells pleasant - it is a little like pineapple but not so sweet and fruity. This is an excellent handwash, shower gel, shampoo. It will not keep for long so I do not recommend making this much - I mixed it with a handwash I already had that was too runny so it has thickened it up. Do not expect lots of foam out of it but it is a VERY effective cleaner. Then I poured boiling water on the soap nuts another 5 times and left it to steep for at least half an hour each time. 4 times I did a load in the washing machine and poured the liquid in the soap powder dispenser. The clothes went in lightly soiled and came out as I would expect. I always use washing soda as I live in a hard water area. The 5th time I handblended the soap nuts. It was a very foamy mixture. I strained it, the pulp I put in the large cotton bag that the soap nuts originally came in and will put it in another wash tomorrow. The liquid I will also use for another wash. The foam I used to clean the sinks and the bath. There was a yoghurt pot full of it. So for 100g of soap nuts I was able to do 6 loads of washing, make a litre of handwash ( with just a few other ingredients) and get 100ml of foam which I could have washed just about anything with (I think that it would probably be good on carpets). If I hadn't made the handwash I expect I would have done another 4 washes at least. It has surpassed expectations as a product. Do not only use them once - as it says on the bag! If they still look quite shiny and date coloured they still have plenty of soap in them. I definitely prefer the steeping method to put in the washing machine. I would definitely recommend you do what I did to get the most out of them. I expect to replacing most cleaning products with these in the next few weeks. UPDATE: I am still happy with the soap nuts, using them every day one way or another, but I have to add this important piece of info. The soap nuts sometimes contain a very hard seed - about the size of a small marble, and almost as tough. This has resulted in me ruining my hand blender - I thought that I had fished all the seeds out, but missed one and now my blender makes the most horrible noise during use. Citric acid is the best preservative I have found for soap nut mixture - whether as a handwash, laundry or washing up liquid. It has the added advantage of being a natural de-scaler, so particularly good in the washing machine.

Washes well, environmentally friendly, inexpensive!
Using one or two soapnuts for each wash, the bag last several months. I use them for dark laundry. Perfect outcome, great for the environment, and inexpensive!!!!

Good
I've been using these for years and have always find them perfect for my needs. However I have dropped one star because the cost has risen far too much I guess like everything else, but if cost keep rising then i may look for alternatives. The product itself is good, I like them because it's all natural, and I dont get a string fragrence which I dont like as I am sensitive to strong smells, and my clothes come clean, so what's not to like other than the proce spike recently.

WOW! Should have known about these earlier!
This is a great product that I happen to discover by chance and now wish I knew about and used years before. Let me say right from the get-go, absolutely go for it, there really is no downside to using these wonderful shells. They have a number of advantages to them including the fact that they are truly environmentally friendly - you just put them in your green bin after you have washed with them and this is very important taking in consideration how much water we use with every washing we run. They are very economical as well, because you only need about 5-6 half shells per 4-5 kg. washing load and they work absolutely spot on. They are the size of hazelnuts, so you can imagine for yourselves how many shells you get for that 1.kg. bag that you are buying and how many washes you can get out of these shells. I have never tried using them more than once, because I like to follow the instructions, after all they were written by people who knew what they were on about, and also because I feel I have so many I absolutely have no reason to be mocking about with them and trying to reuse them. The shells work on all types of clothing - from the most delicate silks to the blankets, I have tried them on everything, and I have never regretted putting them in. They leave the clothes smelling really lovely and they really have that "natural" feel to them, like you know you haven't used any chemicals to get your clothes clean. As of yet I have not had a stain that the shells have been unable to remove - I have even had them wash out tomatoes on a white shirt, so really no complaints in this department either. Overall, I would say this is one of the greatest discoveries I have recently made, definitely worth the money for me and definitely I will be a returning customer and am I sure if you tried the shells you would be too!

cheap and kind to the environment
Our son, who has now left home, had suffered sensitive skin so we had been using milder washing liquids for years and came across soap nuts by accident and decided to give them a try. We have been using nuts now for about nine months or more and when the brand we had been using was running low and was no longer stocked, we ordered this brand, and another one to find an alternative. In truth both were much the same as the last bag we tried. They cut out all chemicals, apart from the organic, natural ones in the seed casings, are much kinder on the environment and do save a fortune on washing liquids or powders. The real test though is how well do they clean clothes? For the majority of washing we have found soap nuts are fine. Whites remain white, colours don't fade, and everything appears clean. Stains vanish, even on the T-shirts of grandchildren, there is no fragrance whatsoever, apart from a pleasant fresh smell on line-dried clothes, and because there are no chemicals involved, skin sensitivity is not a problem. On heavily stained items then, as with commercial washing powders and liquids, treatment with an organic bleach, stain remover, or even concentrated soap nuts liquid is advisable, but for the vast majority of washing needs, in our experience soap nuts do as good a job as commercial products. Another son is now using the nuts for his family, including my grandchildren, and is happy with the results. Some people don’t like them, some say they don’t wash clean, and admittedly, you can’t see a drum full of soap suds through the washing machine porthole, which could deter some people, and perhaps the make or model of the machine could have a bearing on results, but both ourselves and our son and his family, have no issue with the nuts and are more than happy with the results.

Simple, cheap, ecological, does what it says on the tin
Soap nuts are what they are. Natural nuts, that contain a small amount of saponins (soap). It's enough to wash your clothes to a hygenic level, but you need to understand the basics of getting clothes clean to appreciate them. The act of mechanical movement i.e. in a washing machine, combined with warm water does most of the work of removing the dirt from the garments. Saponins (soap) just break up the surface tension between the water and the dirt, allowing the mechanical movement to more easily remove it. That applies to all washing soaps/liquids. Modern day detergents are better at removing dirt to a point because of all the additives, but pre-treatment of stains is the key in any case. As a student I used to use Persil etc and never get stains out of my clothes and could never figure out why my mum was able. Because she spent hours every week pretreating my stains! So with pretreatment, which often (not always) involves soaking and scrubbing a stain with normal soap as soon as it occurs, these soap nuts bring out clean clothes. I add lavender oil to the dispenser if I want a slight fragrance, and occasionally white distilled vinegar as a softener. My t-towels, have some stains that I live with, the soapnuts don't produce a foam, and my clothes don't wreak of fragrance, but they are clean visually and hygienically. But there genuinely are saponins in the nuts. It's a price I'm willing to pay for a cheap, natural and more importantly simple product. You pop 3 or 4 in a tied up sock and throw in with the washing. My dad now uses them, not because they are natural, but because they're so simple. After a few washes you simply compost them. The only downside is they are shipped from India, but all things considered, shipping masses of these on cargo ships is a drop in the ocean compared to all the other resources we consume in our day to day lives, and must surely use far less oil than the petrochemical based detergents that most householders use.

Impressed with product, not impressed with the plastic packaging
The nuts themselves are brilliant, used for the first time and I'm very impressed with the cleanliness of the clothes and they smell nice and clean, some of the clothes looked fresher and cleaner then they have in a long time so i will definitely be sticking to using soap nuts from now on. The nuts came with 3 mesh bags that held up well in the wash. Not impressed with two different plastic bags used in the packaging though, I decided to use soap nuts to reduce not only the chemicals I'm putting into the water supply but also so I'm using less plastic packaging. Wish I read the reveiws first, will be buying another brand next time that don't use plastic.

Do not hesitate to buy these
Hubby and I share the laundry duty and we have fallen in love with these soap nuts. We were looking for eco friendly, cost effective, ways to clean our clothes that was still ok for our daughter with eczema. These are a perfect fit! I was concerned that my clothes would have an unpleasant smell but they smell pleasant without having an smell. Weird but true! I HATE plastic and I love this for the no plastic alone! We put 5 in one of the little bags and use it 7 times, then we add 5 more, without throwing away the older soap nuts. The price on these was great and that is why we chose this brand.

OTTIME NOCI INDIANE NATURALI
Tipiche noci indiane, molto forti e naturali.

Weißes sollte man also immer mal wieder mit normalen Waschmittel waschen.
