The build quality is really good as you'd expect with Yamaha, tunes good, keeps it's tuning good after a few plays, good size. Nice to pick up and play. Fantastic value. If you're a beginner trying to learn, or an intermediate wanting a classical guitar to record music , this is what you're after.
Review: THE best value for money ever! A quality instrument. - Best value for money ever. A quality instrument. You press the 12th fret and it isn’t out of tune at all. The sound is very very nice - strong and and satisfying. The finish on the neck will make you play faster. The lacquer on the black painted wood is superb. It’s like a black mirror, I’ve taken loads of beautiful photographs with this guitar (using it as a mirror). The thin lines on the edge of the finish and the tuning bolts are white, a fine contrast. I can’t say how pleased I am buying this good looking and beautifully sounding guitar for just 120 quid. Domo arigato, Yamaha!! You guys really rock.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Bought this in nov, steel string has gone. i note the description says nylon strings but ours is 1/2 nylon 1/2 steel. which steel strings do i order?**
A: All classical guitars have 3 'wound' strings and three 'unwound' strings. Depending on how long they've been on the guitar, it would be better to replace all the strings, rather than just one, as a string snapping, is usually a sign that they're on their way out. I have attached a link below, however, you can choose any brand (as long as they're classical and not steel)

**Q: Does it come with case**
A: No

**Q: Can you tell me the neck width please?**
A: Hello,
The neck width is approx 5.2cm at the nut.

Kind regards
Music Box

**Q: Is this the upgraded version of the C40, i.e. the C40 II ?**
A: It's the C40 version and not the upgraded version

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Unfortunately I returned mine!
*by L***O on 19 June 2016*

After spending literally weeks in researching for best options in terms of good classical guitars at an affordable price tag, I've decided for Yamaha C40! I read many and many reviews on Amazon, watched many Youtube reviews from experts and musicians, and in general, they say good things about C40, the reason why, after a failed order on a Tanglewood discovery, I ended up choosing the Yamaha C40! When I opened the package I was indeed happy to see the guitar! It looks good and the general feel of the body is very nice! They come with 6 nylon strings ready to be tuned and played! To tune the guitar, I used Guitar Tuna, a free App from Google Paly Store, wich automatically detects the string played and bip a sound to let you know when it's on the right frequency! So why I returned the guitar? Well, as soon as I played the first cord, there was a strange feeling of disappointment! You know when you have hight expectations on something and you are expecting it to be amazing and in the end... So, unfortunately, that was the feeling after playing the first cords on this guitar! I must say it has been a while I don't play and this could have played a role in the way I felt but I was expecting this guitar to be much easier and comfortable to play, especially because they are beginner's guitar! Unfortunately, when the strings are in tune, they feel much hard on the fingers than other guitars I had in the past. Obviously, this is something you will get used to after few weeks of playing the guitar but, there was something more which became the main reason I've decided to return it! It looses tune just a few minutes of playing! I know this is generally an issue on new classical guitars but I was expecting it to stay in tune for at least one hour or something like that! I tested this during 3 days and no major change, so I thought that paying more than 100 quid for this is not worth it. Another reason that made me return it was because, as it is black and the finish of colour is glossy, it will let you see every fingerprint on the guitar! As a beautiful guitar it is, I find myself cleaning my finger prints on the guitar body every time I play it, so there's no point to having a beautiful guitar like this if it will always look dirty just after holding it! Is the guitar bad? No, I wouldn't say that! In general, the guitar is not a bad product! As you can find by yourself, there are plenty of good reviews from musicians or professionals on the internet about Yamaha C40 and, this guitar is known to be a good option so does Yamaha. I just didn't have good experience with the option I chose and maybe after reading many reviews I was expecting too much and probably if I had chosen the natural coloured one, my experience and review would have been different. So to concluded, I've decided to go for another option which is half the price of Yamaha C40. I will go for a Valencia Classical Full Size and hope to have a better experience! In the end, as I just want to have a guitar at home to play from time to time, I think I will be fine with it. ' [...] If you didn't, I'd love to know why so I can improve the usefulness of future reviews. Any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
