WWII Allies Acrylic Paint Set

As a hobbyist model painter, I've used a lot of different brands of paint, and this Vallejo set is a fantastic starting point for anyone getting into painting WWII models. The price is really good for the amount of paint you get, especially since Vallejo is one of the top brands in the hobby. The best part about this set is the variety of colours it includes. You get 16 different colours that are all historically accurate for painting WWII Allied forces, so you don't have to guess at which colours to use for things like US Army olive drab or British khaki. This is a huge help for beginners. The paint comes in little 17ml dropper bottles, which is a big plus. It makes it really easy to get just a single drop of paint out at a time, so you don't waste any. It's much better than a pot of paint that you have to dip a brush into, which can lead to spills and drying out. The paint itself is water-based acrylic, which means it's super easy to clean up with just water. It also thins well with water, so you can use it for both base coating and more detailed work. It has a great matte finish that looks very realistic on models. Vallejo paints are known for their strong pigment, so they have good coverage and you usually only need one or two thin coats to get a solid colour. It's much better than some of the cheaper craft paints that can require five or six coats. The only real downside is that the set doesn't include any washes or metallics, which you'll need for details like weapons or weathering. So while it's a great starter set, you will need to buy a few extra paints to complete your models. Also, while the paint is easy to work with, it does dry a bit fast, so if you're trying to blend colours on a palette, you have to work quickly. But for a hobby that can be pretty expensive, this is a great value and a fantastic way to get a lot of high-quality paint to start your collection.

I tried this as an experiment, having tried other acrylic paints in the past and always reverted to enamel. Modern enamel paint often requires more than one coat and can take a long time to dry. This paint covers in one coat, is touch dry in less than 30 minutes, is odourless, and is fine for large and small surfaces. A really nice finish without having to work away brush strokes. The containers allow you to squeeze out as much or as little as you need, and any mixing requires works well. So long as you catch it within 20 minutes, mistakes or spills can be washed away with clean water. Matt, satin and gloss varnishes can be used to seal in decals. I haven't had the problem yet, but it may still be needed to apply decals with large areas of transfer film to a gloss finish. So far, the decals I have used have happily gone on to the matt finish, and are sealed in with matt acrylic varnish. Some of the colour descriptions are a little strange, e.g. "English Uniform" is bang on for dark khaki battledress for British soldiers. And the set might look expensive, but it's really very cheap. Really an excellent buy and highly recommended.

Good selection of colours to suit most requirements. Needs to be thinned down with water as very thick paint. Covers well if not thinned down too much.

This paint is great at a very reasonable price unlike some companies that sell three and four times over the normal retail cost. But tjis company is not one, honest and fast

Love Vallejo products. Wonderful range of paints and primers, consistent colour quality, easy application and are great as washes or by an airbrush. Very highly recommended.
