I’ve been impressed with this punch bag so far. Once assembled and weighted properly, it feels sturdy and provides a good target for boxing and fitness training at home. The height is suitable for adults and the striking surface has held up well during use.A freestanding design is ideal if you don’t want to drill into walls or ceilings for a hanging bag. Before I place a review for this Punch Bag, I’d like to share with you the excellent customer service I received from Peter at GallantSports. The first Punch Bag, I received had a large rip where the stitching was at the top of the bag. The stitching had come undone, and the bag was beyond repair. I sent some pictures and corresponded with Peter, who was immediately approachable and eager to resolve my issue. He arranged for a replacement to be sent out, which I received after a few days and I couldn't have been happier.The Punch Bag was primarily bought for my son who has joined his local boxing club and he needed extra punching practice. The bag is the right size for him - 5 and a ¼ foot and his height is 5 foot 3 inches. He is able to strike in a co-ordinated and purposeful manner.The unit was easy to set up. It arrives in two separate packages, which are lighter than I expected. For the base, I opted for sand and I filled it with over 2 and ¾ bags of Builders Sand. You can just as easily use Play Sand or water for this purpose. My only slight criticism here is that the mouth of the base is quite narrow, so I had to fill it very slowly and methodically. Once the base is filled, you join the punch bag to it, with heavy duty bolts which are simply screwed in and tightened with a provided wrench.My son uses the bag for at least 30 minutes everyday, and he has said that it is solid, robust and easily absorbs all his strikes. This is due to the heavy padding and the tilt mechanism design, that soaks up punches. I myself used to box at amateur level, and I have hit the bag a number of times hard as I could. The bag weathered all my punches and then retained its normal shape.With the unit being free standing and having a narrow base surface area, he is able to move around it easily, so this helps his footwork, flexibility, agility and all-round boxing skills.Both my son and I are very happy with this purchase and I’m confident that it will provide him with great service. As he gets older and his boxing prowess and experience increase, I will see if he need a heavier bag for his practice. Until then, this is ideal.

Good bag but has an acrid smell

Using for about 2 weeks, worth every penny. It is good for both adults and kids. Good Quality, size is perfect. Also customer services were very helpful on delivery.

MUST WASH BASE BEFORE USEThis is my 2nd one of these, the bases of both absolutely stank of used tyres and diesel spillage. The first one sat in my apartment stinking for 5 whole years - it did not fade away.With this new one I scrubbed the base with Fairy liquid and a sponge with green scourer on it in the bathtub, 3 full scrubs and washes without holding back the Fairy.Absolutely worked. As a punch bag it’s not the same as a hanging one that you can leather with full force - it springs back so it’s a bit like punching and pushing; but it is a fantastic workout when you can’t hang a bag. Recommended. WASH IT FIRST. I cannot stress that enough. Also use dried kiln sand, get 40kg and chuck some water in when filled.

I was a little cautious over buying something like this online, but I couldn't be happier.I've used it every day for 3 weeks, and it hasn't shown any signs of wear. I was particularly impressed because it actually came the very next day after I ordered (though don't expect this, perhaps their shipping facility is near me, I'm unsure), but it was a great surprise to receive it so quickly.The punch bag itself is very sturdy, and can take some strong punches.There's been a lot of people saying to fill it with sand, as water moves it around too much. To this I'd say it depends on what you're looking to get out of the bag... if you're a really strong guy, fill it with sand, but for the vast majority of people, water will be fine.Putting the item up is really easy, it comes with 15 screws and a spanner, it takes me 3 minutes to put the bag up every day. It may take a little longer first time, but you'll get used to it. I have it outside, but put it up and down every evening, which is a very quick process. I absolutely wouldn't recommend leaving it outside due to the weather, as it will wear...but if you've got facilities indoors, then of course leave it up.Overall - I couldn't be happier with the purchase, it's really high quality stuff and fast delivery. I will be purchasing some more items from Gallant. With all things, there are going to be bad reviews, people are far more likely to leave a negative review than take the time to post a positive one, but I felt it was necessary as it really is a great item.

I hardly ever write reviews, but this is one of those rare, exceptional cases.Firstly, I placed an order through amazon, for the price of 57.99, only to find the same product for the 49.99 on the official Gallant site. I called up customer serviceto enquire if I can cancel my amazon order to place a direct order. They very graciously, without me even asking, refunded the difference of £8 to my account and said that my amazon order would continue through the process.Secondly, the delivery was amazingly fast for a rather large item. I received delivery through UPS on the 2nd working day after the order was placed. Absolutely ace!Thirdly, the product itself is very well made, extremely sturdy and can really take a solid punch without falling over (100 kg of Kiln Dried Sand in the base). The top half can be disconnected and placed elsewhere if desired, but it genuinely looks quite pleasant anyway, so I've just left it in my living room.Honestly, I couldn't name one truly negative thing other than the small fact that the hole to fill with sand, is rather small. However, with more than one person filling the sand and a few DIY tricks, as I discovered a little while after a lot of effort, such as holding an entire bag of sand straight into a big funnel - the base will be full within 20 minutes at most.I would without doubt purchase from Gallant again. It was an absolute pleasure. Keep up the fantastic work!

I don't often write reviews of things I buy but think this item deserves it as I'm very pleased with it.First of all, this punch bag isn't as good as a good ceiling mounted, free swinging heavy bag. However if, like me, you'd quite like it if you didn't bring down your garage roof or shake plaster from connected walls, a free standing bag is the only way to go. I have used a very tall free standing bag at my works gym for a while now and frankly wasn't impressed as it is little better than hitting air. Now to this bag. It isn't very tall, I stand 5ft 6inches (168cm) and it comes to just above eyebrow height on me. For me this is fine but taller people may want a taller bag. The base is nice and narrow meaning you can move around the bag easily and strike from a natural distance. So far I have filled the base with water so it rocks a bit but doesn't seem in danger of toppling over, and I hit reasonably hard (if I say so myself). If I want it more solid I may use sand in the future. The striking surface of the bag is about 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter and is covered in very thick, very well stitched faux leather. The punching surface is quite firm. The bag joins to the base by means of a bolted rubber housing which provides the bags 'flex' and It has to be said this flex is minimal. The bag arrived within a couple of days of ordering in two parts one day apart. It requires a little assembly using bolts and a spanner provided that took me about 15 minutes including filling with water.If you want a well made, reasonably priced, medium sized bag that will fit in relatively small area and be strong enough to do an effective training session I think this is hard to beat.
