I installed mine and it stays permanently on** A: If you press the reset button and Prees the pause button should turn off after a few seconds s or so but it does turn off had mine 2 or three years put duracell battery first installment still going leave pause button pressed in until you use it next time **Q: Is there an on/off switch or is the display permanently on?** A: There is an on/off switch **Q: this sensor dont seem to count up, is it just metal it sees?** A: It needs to pass the included magnet to trigger each number count.
