I wouldn't use it for pets. It's coated in fire retardant which is highly toxic and carcinogenic.

Does the filter paper need to go next to the grid and then the filter on top ?? Or the other way round.

yes paper next to the inlet grill to catch the grease and then the carbon filter to deal with the smells

Is this OK for Neff air recirculating hood which usesblack filter material with metal metal to hold in place?

Hi, I would consider this a good alternative filter to use but to be sure ask the customer support department where the hood originated. Basically a filter is a filter and as long as the metal frame has holes throughout it will be fine. Hope that this helps.
