Made all the difference
Used to top up master cylinder for clutch and brakes as the level was low. Beforehand the clutch biting point was so vague and the brakes so soft that I thought the system needed bleeding, so it was. Fresh DOT4 and the problems had gone - positive gear changes and a firm brake pedal make it all good.
