I would like to purchase this for multi use on hard floors and carpeted. I've read from other reviews that use of this model is poor on carpet useage.

You are correct. It depends on the carpet pile. Although there is an adjustment for carpet, which lowers a brush, it doesn't work well. The suction is poor and it tends to glide over the carpet. I spoke to Bosch and was told that this model isn't really designed for thick pile carpets. But I found it worked alright on a less thicker carpet in my conservatory, and of course it's fine on hard surfaces and mats. I was going to return it but will keep it for where it works in the kitchen and conservatory, as it is very light. I use an old Miele vac with a carpet beater attachment for the sitting room and upstairs, but I wanted to to replace it because it is heavy to lift about, being an older model! Hope this helps.
