The ideas are so clear and practical — things you can actually apply in everyday life. What I love most is how peaceful and freeing it feels once you start putting the “agreements” into practice. I’ve noticed myself being less reactive, more mindful, and just overall happier. It’s the kind of book I’ll keep coming back to whenever I need a reminder to stay grounded. A Thought-Provoking Exploration of Personal Growth and Spirituality
With the best will in the world, I think people can recommend books that changed their lives, but really, so much of that effect is fluid and malleable and based on fluctuating factors like; your level of engagement, your frame of mind, your time in your cycle, your employment status, the weather / season (yes SAD I'm looking at you), etc. etc. ad infinitum. I wish I'd read this before I went to Mexico because I would've loved to meet and talk to Toltec or Shamanic practitioners, and it feels a little bit like a wasted opportunity, but hey ho. The outlook put forward in this book is nothing groundbreaking or unique, but it is incredibly earnest, clear, well-argued and actually quite persuasive. I like that the message is essentially: "here's how to lead a happier life, you don't have to do any of these things, but know that if you do, and you put in the work (and it will require actual work), you will enjoy your life a lot more". The onus really is on you which is simultaneously annoying and empowering. I understand people's gripes with the dismissal of "trauma", I'm going to play devil's advocate and suggest that Ruiz wasn't referring to significant psychological, emotional or sexual trauma (or crimes), but more generally to the trauma and discontent of our own making - essentially the "I'm a powerless victim of my society, environment, situation" narrative that we are encouraged to adopt, so as to keep us in line. As someone who is increasingly openminded about spirituality and curious about animism and Buddhist beliefs, I found this book to be a great jumping off point for considering the nuances beyond the traditional Polarity of Atheism vs Christianity. I'm tired of being urged to pick a side and defend it to the death, I don't think anything is that cut and dry - hence the quest for knowledge, onwards I go.

A magic book
If you ever had any problems feeling judged, maybe making assumptions or taking things personally, maybe you dont like confrontation, or maybe you feel low because you are going through a bad relationship, a bad living environment or maybe even a toxic work environment. This is the book for you, and trust me, anyone could take lessons from this book that will seriously help you, mind and emotion. Dont waste time, this is the best self help/advice book gotten. People say you dont need advice , but this wisdom is so valuable, it will change how you approach conflicts and negative thoughts and i only had it for maybe less than 24 hours

It Has Saved Me Several Times...
"The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz is an extraordinary guide to personal freedom and spiritual enlightenment. With its concise yet impactful principles, this book offers a roadmap to transforming one's life by breaking free from limiting beliefs and embracing a new way of being. Ruiz distills ancient Toltec wisdom into four foundational agreements that can lead readers toward a path of self-discovery and profound self-improvement. These agreements are: - Be Impeccable with Your Word: Ruiz emphasizes the immense power of our words and how they shape our reality. By choosing honesty, speaking positively about ourselves and others, and refraining from using words against ourselves, we can create a life rooted in authenticity and integrity. - Don't Take Anything Personally: This agreement liberates us from the tyranny of others' opinions and actions. Ruiz explains how the way people treat us is a reflection of their own experiences and beliefs, not a measure of our worth. By letting go of the need for external validation, we can find inner peace. - Don't Make Assumptions: Assumptions often lead to misunderstandings and unnecessary conflicts. Ruiz advocates for open communication and the courage to ask questions, ensuring clarity and preventing unnecessary emotional suffering caused by jumping to conclusions. - Always Do Your Best: By committing to doing your best in every moment, you release yourself from the chains of self-judgment and regret. This agreement encourages self-compassion and the understanding that our "best" can vary from day to day due to circumstances beyond our control. Ruiz's writing style is simple and accessible, yet it carries a profound depth of wisdom. He masterfully weaves together spiritual insights, psychology, and practical advice into a tapestry of transformation. The anecdotes and examples he shares make the concepts relatable and applicable to everyday life. "The Four Agreements" is not a book to read and forget; it's a manual for living authentically and harmoniously. Its teachings can help us dismantle the self-imposed limitations that hinder our growth and happiness. By adopting these agreements, readers can embark on a journey of self-mastery, leading to a more fulfilling and purpose-driven existence. This book is a must-read for anyone seeking personal development, spiritual growth, or a deeper understanding of the human experience. Whether you're new to self-help literature or a seasoned reader, "The Four Agreements" offers timeless wisdom that has the potential to reshape your perception of the world and your place within it.

Thought provoking
I think this book is written with good intention and has probably helped a lot of people.I decided to read it to see whether it Was a book about faith or a humanist book? I found that there was a lot that I could agree with, but some of it is put in a very unusual way. I agree, for example, that our words are very important and that they have a powerful effect. I wouldn’t necessarily describe my words as magic though. The author seems to be pantheistic in his approach. He refers to our life as a dream. I don’t feel as though I am dreaming. I believe I am in a reality and yet also have faith. I think the four agreements might help some people to learn to love more. Certainly as a starting point. I found the emphasis on magic difficult and would express it differently. For example what we say to people has a powerful effect and we should be careful to be honest and positive in what we say.
