Is the neck *really* made of mahogany? Can the manufacturers not find a suitable, sustainable hardwood to use instead.

Yes, it is mahagany. Most major manufacturers are now working towards only using FSC certified wood. Deforestation in FSC forests is being shown to be 20 times less than forests where harvesting of wood is forbidden. There are some companies experimenting with sustainable materials, for example flaxwood which is a mixture of non-endengered european spruce and polymers. This product can be melted down and re-used so there is no wastage as well. For all manufacturers of guitars to stop using endangered woods the public simply has to stop buying their products. Roughly 7 million guitars are sold every years so consumers do have a voice. As a middle man in this system I would love to sell guitars only made from sustainable products but it is the end consumers that will decide.

Hi no there are no tabs to attach a strap, but you could get one with a hook that would fit onto to sound box opening. Hope this helps. There again strap not really needed.
