It works both with battery and with solar.

What was most important to me is purchasing a product that works and or leaves the buyer satisfied.
Misleading solar power toy car advertisement that does not work. I was very disappointed, I was looking forward to construct something with my child that dealt with solar power. I do not recommend this for your child, it is a waist of your money and time, unless that is what you want.

Solar panel doesnt work as great.
The car kit is an amazingly fun project and is really easy to make, the only downside is that the car does not run when using the solar panels, I placed it in the sun with dead batteries and waited for a while still no luck. It is basically an rc car, other than that it is really fun to make and play around with, and to show off to friends.
