The RØDE SmartLav+ Smartphone Lavalier Microphone
The RØDE SmartLav+ Smartphone Lavalier Microphone is a game-changer for anyone looking to capture high-quality audio with their smartphone. Whether you're a vlogger, filmmaker, or podcaster, this discreet little microphone delivers broadcast-grade sound without the need for bulky equipment. [Image of RØDE SmartLav+ Smartphone Lavalier Microphone] **Pros:** * **Excellent Audio Quality:** The omnidirectional condenser capsule captures clear and crisp audio, even in noisy environments. * **Discreet and Portable:** The small size and included clip make it easy to wear and hide on clothing. * **Durable Construction:** The Kevlar-reinforced cable can withstand daily wear and tear. * **Versatile Compatibility:** Works with most smartphones and tablets with a TRRS headphone jack. **Cons:** * **Requires Additional App:** To get the most out of the SmartLav+, you'll need to download RØDE's Reporter app (or a similar recording app). * **Not Suitable for High-Wind Environments:** The included foam windscreen helps reduce wind noise, but it may not be enough for extreme conditions. **Overall:** The RØDE SmartLav+ is an excellent investment for anyone who wants to elevate the audio quality of their smartphone recordings. It's easy to use, delivers professional-level sound, and is built to last. If you're serious about creating content, this microphone is a must-have. This little mic is as good as some mics I've had costing over £100

Quality microphone
This microphone is most excellent ! I use an old smartphone in my pocket as a sound recorder so the TRRS connecter is very handy. So much less visually intrusive than those silly bluetooth mics everyone uses these days.

Great mic, be aware of connection....
I bought this for use mainly doing youtube videos etc but also for my own home videos. I also got it to use with the iPad air 2 with garageband, but I ended up downloading an app as I struggled with garageband, first attempt saw me dictating for 10 mins when garageband only recorded 8 secs, anyhow thats another story. This is a very good mic and the clip is very good, and I think that is important as, you can get a lot of shuffle noise on a lapel mic if its brushing against you when you move, I didnt with this. I used the mic whilst driving a car doing a review into a zoom H2N and the sound was pro quality. Strange I saw a warning label for strangulation but there is kevlar in the cord, so its possible this could cut your head off. Yo uhave to be aware this mic is made for iphones or ipad or other devices which have the TRRS input, there are 4 contacts if you plug this straight into a regular device or amp or the H2N it will not work you need the TRRS to TRS converter. Thats why the title says for iphone, the iphone/ipad recognises a 4 pin plug in the headphone socket and sees it as a mic. Its in a nice quality pouch and the converter lead amazon does also fits in there so its ready for any device. Comes with a windsock, and I guess once you put this on its always on, but it picks up voice very well its well worth the money in quality of sound.

Great sounding microphone, very small and light
Finally I have found a mic thats good enough to use to produce youtube videos. For the last few weeks I have been wanting to get started making videos for youtube but needing an upgrade from my phone microphone i bought a few different ones from amazon and had to send them all back as the sound quality was no where near good enough for a video you would want anyone to hear. This little gem sounds great, crisp clear voice with minimal background noise and no clipping that i could tell. This one is the keeper and a pretty good price too for a big name

Works with HTC Android Phones
Purchased this to use with a HTC10 Android phone. Tested using Android 7.0 Nougat and the default HTC camera app. Also used with the Rode SC1 extension cable. When you plug this into the headphone jack a small headset icon appears in your notification bar. You can then record a phone video as normal, I used the default camera app. When you playback the audio pull the microphone out of the jack as the audio won't be audible until you do. This is because the phone thinks it's a headset plugged in not just a microphone. In reality it has recorded the sound perfectly. Significant difference in audio recording quality over the phone's built in microphone. Clear and crisp audio without any background noise. Great product!

It works really well
It works really well, it's simple to assemble and the sound quality is excellent the pop filter is really good it fits over the tiny mic very tightly it has a rubber connector which means it won't fall off the mic, the last one I bought cost £24.99 and caused a high pitched whine through all recordings making it unusable and considering the price I expected it to work well, so that got returned to Amazon for a full refund it was the "Pro Lavalier Lapel Microphone JK MIC-J 044" the pop filter was crap too it fell off if you breathed on it too heavily ;). The big plus for me is Amazon dropped the price of this rode mic from £55.99 to £39.00 that's a £17.00 drop which made it just £14.00 more than the previous crap mic and man am I glad I did, so 6 out of 5 stars from me highly recommended

Awesome! Very happy!
Absolutely brilliant! I've used it now for different situations and it has never let me down! I mostly used it with Zoom H1 recorder. GOOD: 1. It's got a superb sound recording quality. Not a single bad thing to say about it! 2. It's small and comes with a nice bag to carry it with. 3. IT IS CHEAP! So good for the price you pay. BAD: 1. If you want to use it with a recorder like Zoom H1 or similar then you need to have a small adaptor (RØDE SC3) RØDE SC3 iPhone Accessory - Black . It's not really a biggie but it just adds another thing to go wrong when you're recording coz the adaptor might disconnect from the mic. My fix for that is to just tape it and that's it. And it's another 10 pounds.

Take caution if you are an Android user (Røde has no dedicated app for you but does for Apple users....Not acceptable )
If you go online and even watch Røde lav videos, all claim that the lavalier can be used with ease via an app for BOTH Apple and Android. Answer? Apple = Yes. Android = Not so much by comparison. You will need to go online as I did and find a voice recording app through Google play store for Android because whilst Røde has a dedicated app for IOS users the same cannot be said for Android. They just havent bothered to make one. Having just received this item and making this discovery I am seriously annoyed and debating whether to send it back. In terms of microphone performance, the microphone produces better quality/louder audio in comparison to the inbuilt microphone in phone/tablet with minimal background noise. Good. Am I really happy though? Not really. Whilst the audio sounds good, having to search and pay more money for a non-specific app (free versions are normally time limited so need pro versions for longer files. For example, limited to between 3-10 minutes depending on which app you choose) is not what you are led to believe when purchasing and from the available info online. Additionally some users have reported that quality of audio has decreased with other apps they have had to use as a substitute for Rødes no show. If this was rectified then it would be 4 or 5 stars. However if you look a lot deeper online and really read the comments then you'll see that despite many pleas from Android users Røde clearly is in no rush/doesn't give two hoots. I'm not an expert but despite extensive research I was surprised and not in the pleasant "This is awesome!" way. Sort it out Røde. You would be killing the market if you catered to both systems. Makes you consider whether its worth getting a item by another brand that's a bit cheaper! Apple? Get it. Android? Consider whether you wish for what is advertised/what Apple users will get. If you do consider looking elsewhere as you won't get the same value for money.

It’s small, it’s powerfull, It’s easy to use, it’s productive ! Simply Perfect
The Rode SmartLav+ is a wearable microphone also known as a Lavalier mic it is a Broadcast Quality Professional Grade Lavalier Mic or at least that’s what it”s called, it comes with a TRRS jack which is compatible with most smartphones and the reason behind that is because the smartlav+ is mainly made for usage which motivated RODE to make an app for all the iOS users out there to benefit the most from its feautures, however if you are planning on pluging it to your DSLR or your camera don’t get your hopes too high since your camera needs a TRS jack while the SmartLav+ offers a TRRS one ! but on the other hand RODE did find a way around it by making the RODE SC3 Adapter a TRRS to TRS adapter so you can plug this directly to your camera that will cost you 15$ ! + Now lets talk about the mic itself ! It comes in a omnidirectional condeser mic capsule and inside of it is the discrete 4.5mm miniature microphone, the cable is a 116cm Kevlar reinforced cable so don’t worry about the microphone stretching or snaping in normal usage but I would recommand the Rode SC1 TRRS Extansion cable for an extra 580cm ! +The package also includes a foam windshield which feels pretty premium and will help you avoid all the t,b and p harsh sounds and will reduce the breathing noise it also comes together with a durable mounting clip so you can attach to your shirt ! Or anything you want and a cool locking letherate bag to take it with you if you are on the GO + Now I'll talk about some problems, first of all and the most annoying thing, is that whenever I plug it to my PC or even DSLR, the Clip keeps tazing me whenever it contacts my skin, which makes it harder on me ta concetrate on the content I am creating, 2nd things, is the cable, I beleive that it is tooo short for a lavalier mic, but what I did, is plug the smartLav+ to my smartphone and then put it back into my pocket ( which doesn't taze me lol) and then recor on both the msartphone and DSLR, and then later on I sync it in Premiere Pro, which makes it a lot easier and efficient to work with but those are not some serioues problems, and most of them can be fixed by using some commen sense So overall the microphone does an amazing job for it’s 79$ pricetag, and if I had to choose between this or even the seneheiser ME-2 which costs 70$ more I would easily pick this all day long so if you are considering buying both the SC3 and the SC1 Adapter then this whole setup will cost you around 120$ which is a nobrainer for the quality you are getting from this kit 😊

Good product (Read on for important info.)
First things first - the mic has really good sound quality and is absolute value for money. I wanted to use it for moto vlogging and the wire was thin enough for me to roll it all up and hide it inside the helmet. Mic uses power from the device you are connecting it to so keep enough battery backup if you are looking for longer recordings. GoPro has a c-type port and will require an adapter to affix a mic. There is one available from GoPro itself. This mic has trrs connection jack. While some devices use trrs, some use trs. Incase you have a device, like GoPro, that uses a trs connection then you will need another adapter that converts trrs to trs jack. I spent a lot of time and learnt it the hard way struggling to find out why was there no sound going into my video. Check with your connecting device for the type of socket it has and order accordingly. My recommendation is either the company should include trrs to trs adapter in the packaging, or mention it on the page about this requirement.
