EastlandMen's Newport Slip-On Shoe

Excellent value at $50
Per "Meg" at Eastland, the sole splitting problem mentioned by others was corrected in the Fall of 2022, and the shoes I received from Amazon were manufactured in April 2023. Very comfortable. Functional gussets, not cosmetic like others. Very attractive. Removable insole not glued, unlike many others. True to size. Made in China. Color matches photo. ONLY reason I am returning is there is too much heel slip, probably due entirely to my narrow ankles, a problem I have with all shoes except the Brooks Ghost series.

Nice shoes
Well made for the price. Very lightweight and super comfortable. The finish on the leather looks a bit cheap, but not bad for the price point. Very good shoes for the money overall!

Pretty good shoe for the price
This is the first pair of shoes I ordered online so I was a bit nervous about if they'd fit, how they'd look...ect.However, the shoes look exactly as pictured here and this particular shoe fits right in the middle of my range. I wear anywhere from an 7.5-8.5 and the 8 in 2E fits perfect. A little overly snug the first few times you wear them but after a day or two they seem to have a perfect fit.THe build of the shoe seems good, the shoe has a nice style that can be worn with jeans, dress pants or anything in between. It has a pull out inner-sole that you can replace when worn. The one thing I noticed right out of the box is that he sole(bottom of the shoe)is very hard and will make plenty of noise while walking on hard surfaces. The sole also seems to be pretty slick on hard smooth surfaces but seems to be getting better with wear.I have only owned them for about a week, will up date this review in a few months.Update 11/13/2012: The shoes are great and very comfortable after a few weeks of breaking them in. The traction has gotten better with a little wear. However, we just had our first snow/ice yesterday and these shoes are great in snow but terrible on ice (compared to other shoes I've owned).Update 07/01/2013: It has been close to 10 months since I bought these shoes and they have been the best fitting, most comfortable shoes of this type I have ever owned. The upper leather of the shoe has held up very well with just some basic shine and maintenance done (shoe black..ect) and they looke pretty much new still. However, one problem I had is that the sole cracked in half on the right shoe. I was able to super glue it back together and you can't even tell it happened. I contacted Eastland about the issue and they offered to replace my shoes with new ones at no cost.

High quality materials
The 1st pair I got the left was too small . I ordered the next half size up and they fit great. Only this time the right one was tighter than the left. Order 1/2 size up they run small and inconsistent on the sizing. Overall a very nice shoe.

First pair lasted 4 - 5 years
My local Kohl's store stopped selling these so I was happy to find them on Amazon. My first pair lasted at least 4 years thanks to decent construction and my occasional application of brown-colored scuff cover (like shoe polish). The stitching eventually wore enough that walking in rain meant that water seeped through but I'm keeping that original pair for mowing the lawn in or painting. The new pair that I bought online are a size 9 and fit as nicely as the original ones. I wore them for an entire day to start with and didn't feel much discomfort in the heel at all. I think that they break in easily. The shoe horn is always a good way to extend the life of the shoe, but I would not say that it is necessary. I'm going to take good care of this pair and see if I can get them to last a long time. I like the fact that they are easy to slip on and go well with jeans. I got the brown color which have a smooth complexion rather than any type of texture or pattern to the leather.

3rd Pair and Counting... but wait
This is my third pair of these shoes I've purchased. The first pair I wore till the soles were bare. I was very happy with the shoes. The second pair, I played a little too hard in and the sole broke when I was running in them (as I shouldn't have been) and I mis-stepped and bent the shoe nearly in half. My fault entirely and I admit it. It was rather odd though to see the sole split in 2 though. I continued to wear the shoes for a while, but the wetter weather forced me to get rid of them. I wear these shoes to work primarily. As a software developer, I don't exactly put too much wear on my shoes seeing as how much sitting I do. With this in mind, I purchased my 3rd pair in Jan '15. To my amazement though, the same thing happened to this pair except no reckless action on my behalf took place. I just noticed the sole split one day and couldn't believe it. I checked on Eastland's website and saw marketing speak about their warranty so I sent them an email early Jan '16 I believe (I don't have a record since it was an online form submission). I waited and did not receive any response so I sent them another email mid Feb '16. I received the following condensed response:Thank you for contacting EastlandShoe.com Customer Service with the problem you are experiencing with a pair of our shoes. We guarantee all of our footwear 100% against material and manufacturing defects (EastlandShoe.com does not guarantee wear or tear or any damage unrelated to the manufacturer). Please return your shoes to us for inspection. If your shoes are defective, we will be glad to send you a new pair provided you have a shipping address in the United States. (Please note that we reserve the right to send you a similar style if the one you return is no longer in stock.) If your shoes are not found to be defective, we will return them to you as soon as possible. So, with this information, I then boxed up and went to mail these shoes back. $15 via USPS or $25 via UPS. Hmm... do I really want to be $15 to hopefully, maybe get this resolved? There in lies the question. Checking my Amazon orders, I see that I could have returned these via Amazon, but only through Feb '16. I'm not kidding! 10 days ago I could have returned them and now I'm in this limbo with the $15 wager before me.In the end, I'm left wondering "Are the shoes cheap and split shoes is the norm, or was I just lucky enough to get 2 lemons in a row?"- UPDATE -New pair just arrived from Eastland so start the clock on the new pair.

Quality
These shoes are very lightweight and comfortable. Sizing is perfect according to the chart provided. Nice leather and good cushioning soles. The quality is evident and they are well constructed. Sharp looking, streamlined shoes that I hope will last. Nice dark brown color. My only concern is they might be slippery on wet surfaces. A bit pricey.

Tough as nails
This is my second pair of the same shoe. They are comfortable and wear like iron, no noticeable wear on the soles after four years, leather still in good shape with no maintenance from me, wore them year round. They are not very stylish but my feet feel good. I did wear through the inner lining behind the left heel, hence the purchase of the second pair.
