!!!!
I love this book!!! I already loved the boxcar children books and then when I saw this I bought it! Its amazing! Even if the parents do die, its a really good book! I loved how it was written! I encourage all of you that read this review to get this book. Like I said before its AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!And Totally worth the buy! Once you read this review feel free to read other reviews first before going ahead and buying the book and not even knowing if you will like it. Its not exactly the first book in the series. Though there are no books before it, you might want to read one of the books by Gertrude Chandler Warner first and then this book. Thats what I did. In fact I read the entire series before I discovered this amazing book. I think three words that describe this book are: amazing, exiting, and sad. But still really cool! This is definitly a book for all ages! I hole you enjoy the book! Please forgive me if there are any typos in this review. I am using a kindle to type this and it isn't the easiest. :)

The History of the Mystery
The Boxcar Children had always been a large part of my life. From reading one of the first editions at my Grandmother's house to starting my own collection, the Aldens had grown up with me, like they were a part of my family. One of the questions that had always nagged at me was what happened to their parents, their old home? I've read two versions of the first book and neither of them mention what happened to the parents or why they're scared of/despise this Grandfather that they never met. This book satisfies that curiosity. The only problem I have with it is that the writing style is so different from Gertrude Chandler Warner's own style that it's hard to ignore. I'm not saying that its bad, but being a writer myself I can recognize different writing styles and it takes away from the otherwise excellent story. Boxcar Children fans will certainly enjoy learning about how four children came to stand in in front of a bakery and learn about what happened on Fair Meadow Farm and the secret origin of The Boxcar Children.

I like the way she honored Gertrude
I like the way she honored Gertrude. Nicely done. Will save for my Grand daughter. I reread to take me back to my childhood that was interrupted at age 9 when my mother died. It must have gave me some children to connect with as I was the only one whose mother had died along with my sister at that time in my school

Definitely worth the read!
I have been reading 'The Boxcar Children' ever since I was 8 and still love the books! This prequel captures the characters very well, and it is great being able to read about the Aldens' life before they lived with Grandfather. However, the book is quite sad... but I don't want to give away any spoilers! I'm very glad to have it as part of the rest of my Boxcar books!

I have loved these books about the adventures of the Alden children ...
I have loved these books about the adventures of the Alden children since I was a child. This is the book to begin with if you are a new reader to this Series. Now I share these books with my grand daughter, she loves them too. Highly recommend for good family reading.

Great Background knowledge for the series
After reading the shorter lower level Boxcar children books, Benny and Watch, this was a great transition to begin the chapter book series. However, the story ended sadly and was humbling way to end the story. It did not set the stage to motivate a child to read the next book.

Excellent
Outstanding series for fans of Enid Blyton. My 9 year old loved it.All the books are not available on amazon.Books are imported so very expensive.Wish there would be a tie up with an indian publication so the books could be priced more aggressively.
