The chip itself is marked FDTI so these adapters openly use a counterfeit FTDI FTR232L Chip. I am rather surprised that Amazon openly and knowingly sells a product with a counterfeit FTDI chip.The FTPROG utility will not work with these counterfeits, meaning that the EEPROM cannot be programmed. So many of the features of a genuine FTDI chip cannot be used. The Serial# cannot be changed. The GPIOs cannot be programmed, and the data lines cannot be inverted. The Power descriptor cannot be set. So you are stuck with whatever EEPROM configuration the counterfeiters burned into the fake chip.So.you get none of the advantages of real FTDI device and might as well purchase a CH340, or CP2102 based device which are less likely to be fakes or counterfeits and will not have the driver compatibility issues that these fakes have. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Simply garbage. *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2018* Pure and simply trash! No micro usb cable will plug into this thing, it is useless. It looks as if it is mini usb, and who has mini usb cables? It should have said in the description that it was not micro usb, especially since that is the standard.Another major problem with the board is the pins are not labeled in any legible manor. They dont really show the pin out labels in any of the photos, and I just assumed it was because it was taken at a bad angle. Nope, the photos on Amazon will be the best clarity you will have.Purchase any other serial adapter but this garbage. I havnt even been able to try it, because I dont have any mini usb cables, I have tuns of micro usb cables(the standard cables).
