Probably the best Need for Speed game ever
Need for Speed: Unbound is quite simply a massive return to form for a series that's really had its ups and downs. With a decent core quest for single player and a plethora of multiplayer options, the main thing it absolutely nails right out of the gate is a perfect balance between superb playability and car handling, and a fairly rewarding upgrade curve.I won't bore you with the paper-thin plot, most folk will want to know how this looks and plays - and on the PS5 it's absolutely stunning looking with great use of the PS5's advanced graphics capabilities - so far it feels like the only arcade racer that's achieved this.Don't be put off by some of the anime styling, the game does actually provide some excellent car models with plenty of options for you to customise and jazz up your cars, or you can just opt to download a decent paint job from some of the communtiy designs. Customisation is thoroughly explored too, with loads of options to apply body kits or custom parts to your cars to beef them up.For me it's all about that handling though. The last few NFS games from Ghost Studios and Black Box haven't quite nailed the playability feeling like you're throwing an anchor out of the back of the car if you want to drift around corners and use the E-Brake. But this is Criterion we're talking about, and if there's one thing Criterion know - and know well - it's how to put together a fantastic arcade racer (I just wish EA would stop mucking around and let that studio loose on a this-gen Burnout game because by gad, that would be spectacular!)This is doing the rounds in various sales and it's fairly cheap on here. Hoover it up if you want the best arcade racer of the current console generation. AND (best of all) unlike most EA games you can comfortably ignore the DLC, there's plenty in the core game to keep you occupied for ages (I'm still playing it nearly 8 months on from getting it and still love it to bits even though I've seen all the races in the game now, it's just too much fun to tool around Riverside).

Need For Speed Underbound
Honestly it's not a bad game, ignore the negativity and give it a go! The handling takes some getting used to I will admit but that's just expected after all the recent Need For Speeds. The anime/cartoon thing might not be for everyone, I was skeptical but it's just a new direction so it's something fresh. Customisation is great and the cars models and sounds are good as always! I'm still playing it now checking out the new updates too 👍🏼

Very hard / no room for error
The CPU are always 2 steps a head there cars are much faster than yours at least at the start of the story mode not sure later on in the game. So far the difficulty is crazy hard and taking corners stressful esp as you drift most times brake & gas at the same time but some cars worse than others esp if there rear wheel drive. Loved the NFS before this one, HEAT but it takes some time getting use too. If your an og like myself and can drive, this game is for you as its very competitive and takes a lot of time and patience. Don't be afraid to tweek the handling settings on every car as there all different, realistic game this one esp when you turn off the cartoon effects like i did. Don't get me wrong I'm only a few hours in and I've came first a few times but getting top 3 can be deadly. The biggest mistake the creator's made was gambling and having to buy in most races esp if your not winning much. You only get a certain amount of restarts depending on what difficulty u choose so be prepared to lose some money and your patience lol. Still working on the kinks and my Subaru so hopefully it gets easier as i get more practice in.I've never been caught by the cops, but others say it's nearly impossible eacaping them, pedal to the metal i guess.

Good Racing Game, Story Is Boring
Haven't played Need For Speed as such since Payback was released a few years ago, I thought I give Unbound a try.Firstly the graphics look quite good, it's refreshing a play a NFS game in 60 Frames per second, I do like the cartoon/anime style on the characters and racing effects, it's different which I can respect Criterion Games for taking that chance. However the story is bland and poor, it's basically trying to get your car back from a "friend", there's nothing really that exciting that happens from a storyline point of view. This also reflects on the characters, there wasn't really anything of note that made the characters interesting which is a shame.Racing is quite good, though the handing can be a bit tricky which can be changed in the settings or the garage/safe houses, customization is excellent where you can change most parts of your car, including upgrading a car to a higher spec. While this game is a improvement from the likes of NFS Heat, it does lack a good story as well as multiplayer missing some features at time of this review.

Crying Shame… could be so good
But it’s not. Looks great, good story, good customisation. Very frustrating, the AI is appalling, even on easy level you win a race more by luck than judgement, even with your car fully specced all the AI cars out run you, they are faster on the straights, out accelerate and out handle you, if you make the tiniest mistake all the AI cars fly past you and you’re unlikely to catch them, the huge number of cops and other traffic mean you’ll probably make a mistake. I expect the easy level of a game to allow reasonably relaxed progress not here it doesn’t. It’s not so much that it’s difficult it’s just very unpredictable has no consistency and very poorly programmed dynamics.
