Not for an I-Phone 8
I returned it. I could not use it with my I-Phone 8 : there is no jack on I-Phone 8. So I could not plug this device into my I-Phone.In their advertisement they should say that it is not for an I-Phone 8.

Meh.
Does not measure in real time. I knew this but I figured it would still work for my purposes. The fastest reading takes 3 minutes. The readings are inconsistent even with a test sample of known radioactivity. I took a series of readings to see if statistically, the readings would average out to the sample number. It did not.The app will tell you to turn off all radios on your phone. WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular and data... WiFi and bluetooth is easy but how to turn off your cellular radio?!?... Dunno. I tried the airplane mode and do not disturb modes with little change in accuracy or precision. This would be good as a parlor trick but not much more.

Solid State Array Gamma Detector
This is a very nice Solid State detector and phone app combination, with adequate flexibility to get meaningful results. The detector is limited to gamma and X-ray ionizing radiation. Outside of background or naturally occurring mineral or cosmic radiation, you likely will not get a lot of response shown unless you are in a gamma or X-ray field (medical or industrial). Some information in previous reviews is wrong. Under 'Settings' you can get real time count rate by setting window to '0'. Then 3, 5, 10 min averaging is also available and 3 min is default. The detector is likely an FT Labs (South Korea) GDK101. This has been independently lab tested to be 98% accurate from 30-70 micro Sieverts/hour dose rate. Extrapolating outside this range is estimated to be within +/- 6.5% from the lab sheet. The range stated by the manufacturer for the detector/phone app combination is .05-200uSv/h. The gamma sensitivity is typically lower at 12 counts per minute (CPM) per micro Sievert/hour (uSv/h) than other more typical Geiger Mueller tube commercial radiation meters that can also detect alpha and beta ionizing radiation (100-450 CPM/uSv/h). The first image is showing 25.9 uSv/h (which is in the upper third and in the red on the app scale; and alarm icon shows on screen) and is based in the average of 10 minutes of counts (2912) with average CPM of 291.7. That divided by 12CPM/uSv/h roughly gives the displayed 25.9 uSv/h dose rate. Some would prefer Grays (adsorbed) instead of Sieverts (equivalent), but the two are the same for the most part for what this detector responds to. The source providing that reading is an educational 10 micro Curie Cs-137 disk. The second picture shows the reading from a one pound bag of Potassium Salt Substitute. 3.3CPM and .29 uSv/h. Normal daily background dose rate is only .175 uSv/h. This appears to be well made and sturdy. The app itself could be expanded to allow for calculation of accumulated dose over specific time period (dosimeter) and the addition of a user defined averaging window would be helpful. You can see in the screen images that the window showing the dose rate is truncated. Likely the screen image is not being properly resized for the screen on this phone. I would hope they fix that. I think there is great value here if you're interested in this sort of thing but expectations need to be tempered to the fact that the type of radiation this detector detects in abundance will not be something you will run across regularly (and you wouldn't want to).

Waste of money
Bought this from the Korean site and honestly, it was a huge waste of money. It runs very slowly and only measures an average of several minutes - the longer the better. The app is too simple and has no features whatsoever, not even graphs. It can only measure Gamma and X ray, but for some reason can't even handle hard BetaI'm also interested as to why it always connects to the internet - what exactly is it trying to get/send?For the price, you can get a much more useful Chinese counter here on Amazon or on Ali and it'll do a much better job.NOT worth the money

Not like a real Geiger counter
Not like a real Geiger counter. There is no clicking sound. You can't scan around listening for hot spots. You have to let it sit in one place for 3 minutes while it "counts" silently. It results in a reading in uS/hr (what's that?) not roentgens like a normal Geiger counter. Not at all useful, actually.

this isn’t the 50’s Too bad smartphones are starting to phase out headphone jacks
Works as intended. Decent detector efficiency for the price. For those of you who aren’t aware of the units measured, they’re micro-Seiverts lol and no you don’t need to hear the clicking to know it’s getting counts, this isn’t the 50’sToo bad smartphones are starting to phase out headphone jacks. However lightning usb dongles make the device kind of cool to use

It’s not a Geiger counter.
Well, it’s not a Geiger counter, but a solid state gadget which gives you some idea of accumulated gamma or X-ray radiation. Never expected it to do precise measurements. My real concern was that after I had it for a short while with occasional use, the software stopped detecting the presence of the gadget —- just stopped working.
