How is the top surface attached/secured to the lower surface?

The Bottom base is attached with 4 screws and a flat base board to attach it.

With a width of 48" I calculated each side to be around 20". This makes it rather tight to sit 8 people. Is there plenty of room for 8 people to sit?

This table sits 4 people comfortably, sits 6 people tightly, but not 8 people.

Is the wood color actually dark wood / cherry ?

Its not a bad color. Its dark but the grain is easily seen so it’s appealing. I just would have liked a redder tint cause i have reddish chairs. This just my opinion. I really like the table a lot and am pleased with it. Sorry answer is a little vague but ive seen cherry wood colors all over the spectrum
