Delish! Umami-packed flavor
This is super tasty and easy to spruce via Amazon (it would have been a schlep to an Asian market to source). I also love that it comes in a resealable package since a little goes a long way

Great black beans for tofu or pickled cucumbers! No need to soak.
Delicious. Easy to use. And, unlike the cheaper competition (e.g., Pearl), you don't have to soak. But the price is still delightfully low, given the large quantity and how much you use each time.

Fresher but less flavourful
I'm used to a very old brand of dried beans that seem much more dehydrated than these, but have a great deal more flavour—admittedly, that brand has added ginger, which may be part of the difference. These, on the other hand, seem fresher, though I think that a questionable virtue in a preserved, fermented, product.
