Mine came with one unit. The count description is misleading.

How many 45 dose this hold?

most of mine were in the jackets, all but 23, and I have 123 in the box and probably room for 10-15 more.

Can you place this on its side? I’m looking to use it kinda like a shelf.

I wouldn't. The support is really at the base of the crate. The sides are unsupported and I think it would be flimsier sitting on it's side, like a shelf.
