If you are doing the edge of a box shape ( a 90 degree edge) these work very well. Where I ran into a problem was putting deviders into a long cage ( a T shaped intersection). This is a strong well made tool so I just ground off some of the outer edge so it would fit. After a couple hundred clips it still works perfectly. **Q: Will this work with 1/2 inch hardware cloth?** A: The clips themselves measure 5/16” wide, so I tried them on both plain and coated 1/2” hardware cloth and they worked fine, these J-clip pliers are the best I’ve used to date. **Q: Are these J-clips large enough to go around 2 4gauge wires - attaching 2 cattle panels together?** A: These are small like for attaching hardware cloth or cage wire. Gone are the days of tightening up my j-clips with regular pliers after I have initially closed them with j-clip pliers. These close the j-clips nice and tight fit nicely into the squares on 1/2 inch hardware cloth and are just a dream to work with. My previous j-clip pliers used to pinch my fingers when closing j-clips, with these this isn't a problem at all as there isn't anything to get pinched in. I used these to attach 500' of chicken wire to a tension cable for a garden fence, so I have put some use into these. Highly recommend! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Making cage repairs is SO much easier now! *by R***D on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 14 December 2021* I bought some used rabbit cages that needed the floors replaced so I bought this tool to do it. I ended up building two more cages from scratch in a couple of hours as well!It does take a little finesse to make sure you have both sides of the wire inside of the clip sometimes. It won’t always grab both if they aren’t lined up right and you can get a clip that is only on one wire. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great way to attach hardware cloth. *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on 20 September 2020* If you are trying to attach panels of 1/4 inch hardware cloth you will have the best luck "hinging" the panels closed in order to crimp the wire, then "un-hinge" the panel. If you are trying to do this in-situ, you can do it ... but it will be very hard without a helper forcing the wire into the jaws of the crimper. If you are crimping wire that has a spacing larger than 1/4" it is a snap.
