This is the original mafia story that spawned all the restโthe story of Chicagoโs ruthless and tireless mafia. Power hungry Don, Jimmy Collucci, is out to become the kingpin of Chicagoโs โHonored Society.โ However, his rise to the top can only be thwarted by one man fueled by revenge set out to destroy itโthe โBlack Warriorโ Jessie Taylor. When ambitions collide, guns are drawn and blood is spilled. This is the original mafia story. The intensely real characters, the brutal overlords, their faithful lackeys, and their vengeful enemies all collide in acts of loyalty, lust, greed and death. Iceberg Slim's story is now depicted in a major motion picture distributed worldwide. Iceberg Slim: Portrait of a Pimp shows Slim's transformation from pimp to the author of seven classic books. Review: Good read - After reading Pimp we had to get more by Slim. Wish this had a glossary as well. The lingo is a little hard to follow and it jumps around, but a good read. Had to send it to an inmate friend. Itโs a jailhouse hit. Review: Consistent with the original. - I purchased this book in an attempt to rebuild my libarary from 70's era copies of works I once owned. Perfunctory examination reveals that this edition appears consistent with the original with very little deviation in the text.

For ghetto girls that like to read.
It was a present. Feedback is if you got a ghetto girlfriend that likes to read she will love this book.

Iceberg Slim is great.
I found it somewhat difficult to follow due to the use of the street lingo of the era. I'm familiar with some, but not all of it. Iceberg Slim tends to use it, almost exclusively, in this one. But I love the way he weaves a tale. He's very detailed.

Gritty & Raw
It will shock delicate sensibilities but Slim sure knows how to tell a story. It's as if he was a fly on the wall witnessing events. I enjoyed it.

Good but not as good as "Pimp" or "Mama Black ...
Good but not as good as "Pimp" or "Mama Black Widow" (I've read "Trick Baby" over 20 years ago, unlike the two books I mentioned, so I'll have to read it again and I've never read "Dynamite Willie & Me"). If you're a fan of Iceberg Slim its worth reading just don't expect "Death Wish" to be as good as those two or for black underworld characters to be the focus of the story...the focus is on Italian Gangsters. Ice is best when he writes about a world he knows well.
