Great space saver.
This worked perfectly in our garage and is such a space saver. We had our contractor here for another job, so he installed it quickly. It’s very sturdy and easy to raise and lower. Highly recommend.

Great space saver for storing my Yakima roof box.
Once installed this hoist system works easily to lift my 17 CU FT Yakima box to my garage ceiling out of the way, saving space in my garage. It took me a while to complete the installation because I had difficulty locating the studs above my finished ceiling. The installation directions were very good and the installation video was excellent. The parts are all very good quality. I am very happy with this purchase and will purchase another for my garage at my summer home.

Very Good System and Great Quality for the Price
Very cool system. Quality of all the equipment is great with plenty of rope left over after I did my setup on an 8 foot ceiling. The directions are easy to understand. I recommend reading them and watching the provided video. Makes it super easy to set up and so far the system is working really well.

Suited my purpose but won’t be for everyone
I was looking for a product that would hoist my rarely used Thule XL cargo box off the floor and out of the way, and as the photos indicate, it did its job nicely. However, if I needed to hoist something heavier and/or something that I needed to access regularly, then this would not have been the best solution. The components appear well made and sturdy, including the heavy-duty lag bolts. The installation instructions are fine, but I’d highly suggest watching the video several times, also. Together, and with the proper tools, I had no problem installing the hoist in under 2 hours, including locating the studs, measuring, aligning, etc. In addition to the tools suggested, I recommend using a laser for alignment, because it’s a lot easier than trying to use a long straight edge when standing on a ladder, particularly if you’ll be installing this yourself, as I did. I’d also suggest a pair of work gloves, as I’ll explain down below. Once I got the hoist all set up, I attached my Thule box (weighing about 47 lbs), which had some items inside (weighing probably an additional 25 lbs). So total weight was about 72 lbs, half of the 150 lbs that the hoist is rated for. When I went to hoist the box, I found it a lot heavier than I imagined it would feel. I read somewhere that the pulley-system provide a 2:1 mechanical advantage — which I have no way of measuring — but which I find hard to believe. I also found it difficult to raise the box without it tilting on one end or the other, since each side of the looped rope controls one end or the other of the item attached. Still, with a friend helping by standing underneath and pushing up while I was pulling, I got the box up and out of the way. The next day, I decided that I didn’t like the way it was listing a little to one side (because the contents inside the box had shifted), so I decided the lower the box and rearrange the contents. This is where the gloves I suggested would have been very handy, because I got rope burn as I tried to slowly and carefully lower the box back to the ground. And as I tried to raise the box (by myself, this time), near disaster as I was trying to raise one end that was lagging (recall I said that each side of the looped rope controls one end) and lost control of the other, so that one end came crashing down. It was at this point that I decided that the 72 lbs was too heavy (as well as not being balanced, due to the shifting contents inside the box), and I removed the contents. After I did this, I had no issue hoisting the 47 lb box, so that it’s flush and neat against the ceiling, as the pictures show. I have no doubt that the hoist could hold the 150 lbs it’s rated for, but as I found out, I certainly can’t imagine trying to raise and lower such a heavy weight, or doing so on a regular basis. But if you use the hoist to store an item, such as an empty cargo box or surf boards, as is pictured in the ad, then it’s a great solution.

Works like a charm
This was perfect for my Thule Pulse-M cargo box. The instructions seemed daunting at first but after I got started I found them to be very good. I chose to mount the system on an 80" pressure treated board and then mount that to the ceiling joists with larger, 4" lag bolts. It made the install a bit more complicated, but it's what I wanted, so I did it anyway. To hang the cargo box, I wheeled it beneath the pulley system on a small flat cart which made it easy to attach the straps properly. I didn't find that it was too difficult to hoist, but the two rope guiding system might be confusing if you asked someone unfamiliar with the set up to retrieve whatever you're storing in the garage cloud. I had no choice but to tie the rope off at an angle to the side but it works fine. I coiled the massive amount of extra rope and then tied that together with a few zip ties to make it look neat and BLAMO! Mission accomplished!

Great hoist for cargo carrier
Fantastic hoist for a Thule cargo carrier. Much better than spending hundreds on the Thule branded version and it does a great job. Good quality hardware.

Definitely a quality brand
I have purchased many similar lifts over the years, and this one is top quality. The pull rope is very long (you can shorten if you desire) and the best I have seen on a lift. The capped off rope ends not only make threading the rope easier, but the knots are surer with it.

Seriously, don't wait, just get it!
I originally had our Thule on a crossbar hanging on the wall, but I really didn't like that solution as it encroached on available space, it required two people to mount/dismount it, and I was always afraid I would knock into it when parking my car (it was about where the shop broom is hanging in the pictures). After a year of hating where it was, I did my research and decided upon this pulley system. Boy-howdy is it great! We can easily park my Audi or the wife's Honda Pilot under it with room to spare. My wife is able to easily raise and lower our Thule, becoming a 1-person job. BTW, it comes with a LOT of rope, so if you have a 10' ceiling it won't be a problem!

Hung on the ceiling of garage for roof box. Very cleverly designed and easy to install once you get your head around it all. We have a large volvo roof box which is heavy, but the pulley system lifts with relative ease and it feels very secure once tied down in place. Very useful and would recommend.

I purchased a Thule cargo box. It's a huge XXL version . I needed a space efficient storage solution for when I don't use the cargo box. It is gigantic and takes up a lot of shed or garage space. That's when I discovered this product It comes in a very small box and essentially is comprised of three police and a bunch of rope and belts. You need to follow the instructions closely and measure two or three times before drilling holes. With no exception you must drill the pulley brackets into studs. I installed mine in the garage so I had tons of studs to drill into no problem and that made things much easier. You should probably as close as possible follow the pulley separation guide and install appropriately. It recommends taking the length of the cargo box and multiplying that by 0.4 in order to find the distance between the pullies. Once you get this pre-measured out it's just a matter of drilling pilot holes into your studs and then using a torque drill to drill in the lag bolts. If you don't have a drill then no problem you just need to use your own ratchet manually which takes quite a bit of time.... Once your rope is installed you need yourself and two extra people to hold up the cargo box in order to wrap the belts around the belly of the box. Of course you can do this by yourself but it's much easier with extra hands. Pulling the cargo box up and down the police is quite simple and safe so long as you have a good hold on the rope. You need to know how to manipulate the ropes so that the cargo box comes down slowly and safely. Obviously once again if you have two extra people besides yourself then it becomes a lot safer as you pull down the pulley you are able to use two extra people to hold on to the box as it comes within reach. This kit come with ample rope to install in a 10 ft ceiling garage. ... Actually can support higher ceilings than 10-ft easily. It also depends on the distance to your anchor obviously.... If your anchor point is far away then you need more rope but I'm fairly certain that this kit should be good enough for almost all installation situations I'm very happy with the space savings I have gained by using the police to store the cargo box up in the ceiling of the garage which is completely unutilized space. There are other products out there that are in the 50 to $60 range but I found this kit to be most complete and sturdy with extremely smooth pulleys. I don't want to sacrifice quality for this kind of thing. Instructions are excellent and provide ample support to have everything installed in one hour. I installed most of it alone until I had to put the belts onto the cargo box. I hope this helps.

Using for my canoe. Excellent fabrication, strong and love how it can store the canoe close to the ceiling as opposed to other makes. Addition wheel for cord makes a huge difference. Worth the premium paid.
