Kuretake Zig Inktober pen set, for Illustration, Manga Drawing, Lettering and Calligraphy, Professional Artist, Made in Japan (Basic No.3(5pcs.))

I just received this set, and I’m already obsessed!! As an emerging artist with a graphic style, I’ve tried many hundreds of pens. This simple set provides an impressive breadth of stroke options. The two brush pens are capable of creating both bold lines and wispy textures-a rare find in pens v. paint or ink brushes. I’m excited by the gray pen as well! I love a subtle shadow or contrast, and this ink delivers a beautifully light sheer impression. As expected, the Zig .01 tip creates crisp, fine-lining detail. It does the job, but I wouldn’t say it performs better than many others in my collection. Finally, the white pen is meh. On the positive side, it does create a visible white contrast on the first stroke. Contrary to the manufacturer’s description, though, I couldn’t achieve a more opaque contrast by going over the line several more times. The pen’s soft tip almost seemed to re-absorb the white ink with each stroke. It also picked up some of the black ink, creating more of a gray effect. The tip is self-cleaning, but it I wasted some of the white ink trying to clean it off on scrap paper. and I had to waste white ink. I decided not to take off a star for this flaw, as I could probably have mitigated the problem by waiting longer for the black ink to dry. Overall, I enjoy the other pens enough to tolerate this mediocre one. Can’t wait to try their other sets!!

Having bought a whole lot of art supplies in the past I would have to say that Kuretake is one of my favorite brands, by far. Well, Kuretake and Sakura as well. This Inktober set is very cool and I’ve had a lot of fun drawing with it so far. I especially like the ZIG Clear Color Real Brush in this collection. It is what made all of the light gray in my drawing that I’ve included in my photos showing me using most of the pens in this set. I’ve bought large packs of the ZIG Real Brushes before and they can help you create really cool artwork I think. Also, I’m not sure what the longest pen is called, everything written on it is in Japanese Kanji I believe. But it is very versatile in that it gives a fine point type pen/marker on one end. And the other end of it is a brush type pen that allows you to paint thin or really thick lines like a real paint brush. I still don’t exactly understand what the two white tip pens or brushes are for? I’m not sure if they put out white ink or if they are for combining colors together. But, I still really like this set a whole bunch and plan to buy the other ones in the Kuretake Illustration Collection. I think that this set is number 2 in the collection. In buying art supplies I would have to say that buying either German, or like this set, Japanese art supplies are my very favorite. And this Kuretake set of illustration pens and brushes does not disappoint in the slightest. I hope this review was helpful and thanks for reading :D.

Nice grey black mix for monocolor palette

First off, the big black brush pen is sooooo SMOOTH and fluid. The ink isn’t splotchy and it goes over evenly, I’ve noticed that it has a slight gradient at the end of each stroke which I like a lot, it also has a cool design. The fine liner is okay and the smaller brush pen is great for detailing and it has a flexible bib. The white brush pen is just fine. When you squeeze it, the white just dribbled out from the side instead of flowing directly to the brush but it’s manageable. It’s not completely opaque even though I shook the pen well as it instructs, but it’s still great for details and with a few more layers it becomes opaque. The brush pens are amazing and I’d recommend these if your looking for a set. In the last photo, I went over with the white pen a couple times and it wasn’t so transparent as the first time. I wanted a pen for sketching pen and ink and pen and watercolor wash. I didn't want Sakura Micron because I have a ton of those and I wanted something different. I asked my granddaughter, who is an illustrator and she suggested these. When she said they are a 'brush' pen I said, 'ugh, I hate brush pens', but then she explained they are not like a typical cheap brush pen. They are more solid. I have to say these are one of the best drawing pens I've used. So smooth and nice to work with. I like having the gray ink pen as well. For me, it looks less harsh on some of my drawings. I do mostly pen and ink, or pen and watercolor. Now, for me it's a challenge because they are not waterproof if I use watercolor with them. I had good luck with ink though. But knowing that ahead of time, you can easily incorporate that into your work. No idea how long they will last before they are empty, but granddaughter says it should be quite a while.

I was looking for some brush pens so I can start sketching again and came across these which I thought would be perfect since the trio would come in handy for shadowing as well as fine/bold lines. I was right and so glad I purchased these. I’m wanting to get back into sketching and for the little notebook I have these are exactly what I was looking for!

Really fantastic set of pens! I adore all three! Kuretake is an absolutely phenomenal brand. I LOVE the control these pens give you! I buy this style of pens again and again. Some of the Kuretakes leak out the top, but so far these have not!

el plumon negro es genial, super fino y con excelente pigmentacion, el blanco tiene una punta tipo brovha que ayuda bastante, solo tienes que tener cuidado con las veces que giras el cartucho, si no sale una gota muy grande de tinta. la tinta blanca no es muy opaca, pero a la 2da pasada se ve mejor, en mi caso se me manchaba seguido por que lo utilizaba sobre plumones a base de agua. en general ambos plumones son muy buenos

Great little kit for traditional artists for yourself or as an gift! Kuretake Zig has out performed other western art products I've tested previously.
