Blast off into the unknown with this collection of ten classical works of science fiction and fantasy. Long before we ventured into outer space or explored the most remote regions of the planet, writers have spun stories of what might lie in those unknown worlds, or what awaits humanity in the future. Classic Tales of Science Fiction & Fantasy is a collection of ten novels and short stories that blazed the trail for the popular genre. Works by acclaimed authors such as Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Jack London, and H. P. Lovecraft will transport the reader to distant places and times—and set the imagination ablaze! Review: Lovely faux leather book with gold leaf pages - It is difficult to find new, reasonably priced copies of the Canterbury Classics series. This is a used/acceptable copy of Classic Tales of Science Fiction and Fantasy including some of the best & iconic authors of the 19th & 20th Centuries. These are the authors who paved the way for the Science Fiction we have today. The book arrived within 2 days, well-packed in an desertcart shipping box. It is in good shape with only a couple of flaws: it had a handwritten dedication in the front cover, and the binding was separating a little from having been read. The dedication was a nice quote from Shakespeare which I am happy to leave there. And I simply took some binding tape and repaired that one loose area. The stories are indeed Classics that should be in every young person's library. There are no illustrations, so the book is more on a teenage to adult level. I would estimate the print to be about 8pt, so if you wear progressive eyeglasses, you might need a magnifier. Fortunately, this is a gift for a pre-teen boy, so his eyesight should be able to handle it. Since I ordered this book used, I was well aware that it would have flaws. That's why I went ahead and gave it 5 stars, since it is filled with great literature, arrived quickly with no problems, and it was in decent used condition as expected. Review: as described - nice

Sci-fi, book with EXCELLENT selection of stories
Nice looking book with an excellent selection of science fiction stories. But as all things currently described as “leather“ it isn’t leather, but a thin layer of something these days referred to as fau-leather. Disappointing, but expected a real leather binding, if even available, would be absurdly expensive. However, let me clarify that I am happy with my purchase.

Classic science fiction in beautiful edition.
Very beautiful book of classic science fiction including lesser know stories by Bellamy, London. Gilman Nowlan, along with famous tales by Verne, Burroughs, Doyle and Wells. But Lovecraft?? And the print is a more normal size and easier to read them previous editions of Canterbury classic books. Very recommended!

Ask them to protect book during shipping
Terrible shipping, great item! (just placed in a thin plastic white shipping bag). No protection for this hard bound premium book at all. The edges of the book tour through the plastic. Corners only dented slightly and luckily only a few gold edges pages were bent. But the book needed a box and bubble wrap to keep it from getting banged up.

One of the prettiest books from Canterbury Classics
This is another great looking leatherbound book from Canterbury Classics. In the introduction a summary is given of each of the ten stories in this book, together with information about the authors, which really adds to the value of this book. The pages are a pleasant cream white colour, and the font size is eazy to read. The ten stories this book contains are: -The Diamond Lens, by Fitz James O'Brien (1858) -A Journey to the Centre of the Earth, by Jules Verne (1864) -Looking Backward: 2000-1887, by Edward Bellamy (1888) -The War of the Worlds, by H. G. Wells (1897) -A Princess of Mars, by Edgar Rice Burroughs (1912) -The Lost World, by Arthur Conan Doyle (1912) -The Scarlet Plague, by Jack London (1915) -Herland, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1915) -Armageddon 2419 A.D., by Philip Francis Nowlan (1928) -The Dunwich Horror, by H. P. Lovecraft (1928)
