I bought these to practice watercolor painting as a beginner. I just finished testing all the brushes except one and I like them a lot. I don’t think they’re going to be the most durable but several of them seem snappy enough to keep a point, and that’s what I need right now. The bad, so far: The largest mop type brush arrived frizzed and just weird looking, so I took it to the sink with my brush soap and started trying to clean it and shape it. As soon as it got wet the stench of barnyard filled the room, and after lathering with the soap, the water started running out black with dirt. It is clear the hair used in this brush has not been cleaned. Half the bristles fell out as I attempted to clean it and then after a few minutes, the ferrule separated from the handle. That brush is now in the trash. Luckily the rest seem to be sturdier, cleaner, and less smelly, but it was a disappointing way to be introduced to the set. The other brushes do seem to have a stray hair here and there, which I’m hoping eventually stops happening. I was able to get natural hair brushes for under 15 dollars here, so I can’t complain too much. I’m a beginner and they will definitely help me get a feel for using natural hair before I move on to the expensive type.

My whole family and I have had so much fun experimenting with both calligraphy and watercolor painting methods! We have enjoyed having so many different brush style and sizes when we have been creating art works!

I'm only leaving 3 stars as I've only cleaned them for use, and that's where the problem has started. Unfortunately during the process of cleaning them (taking off the sizing material and getting rid of any loose hairs), one of them lost most of its bristles. I haven't contacted Amazon yet as I want to see how the others in the set hold up. It could be just a manufacturing mistake on this one brush, so I want to give the others a chance. I'll use them today with some watercolors and see how they hold up. I was careful when cleaning them for use, so it's definitely an issue on whenever this particular brush was manufactured. If I don't give an update to this, presume no news is good news! Update: Sending the set back. Only a couple were ok and handled nicely and kept their shape when using with watercolors. The rest didn't. My first Chinese brush was by MasterChinese ($6 for one brush, think they're selling them in sets of two now) and even with it having a large brush head, it's wonderful to work with. I suppose you get what you pay for!

They look the business but are absolutely terrible. The bristle quality is shockingly bad and came out in handfuls without effort. Several of the brush heads were so loose, they detached from the handles very easily. I'm so disappointed with this item, I was very hopeful they were going to be of reasonable, useable quality but the only good thing about the set was the bamboo wrap... which was excellent!
