Corporate Espionage
I've been a fan of the Alien films for a long time. I didn't have the opportunity to see Alien Covenant in theaters, but have the film on Blu Ray, though I haven't seen it yet. I decided to wait until the prequel Book was published and read it and the film novelization before watching the movie. It is unusual that the prequel book, which should've been published first, was actually last. There are no monsters in this book, as it is a tale of corporate espionage regarding the mission of the colony ship Covenant. The intrigue is well written and interesting, though not all questions are answered. Weyland -Yutani is not quite the corporate powerhouse in this book, though they are a conglomerate. The head Hideo Yutani is interesting. The organization that opposes him, the Earth Savers has a "prophet" who seemingly knows what monsters like in the dark. His nightmares have given the Earth Savers fuel for their fire. This plot point is similar to one in an earlier book, Alien Sea of Shadows. Please note: Spoilers.Duncan Fields, the prophet, seems to have an empathetic link to the Alien warriors, similar to Ripley's descendant in Sea of Shadows. He had the ability to see through the Alien warriors eyes. Duncan Fields seems to have this ability as well, though the background is not explained fully. Still a great read. I read this book using Immersion Reading. Narrator Tom Taylorson, is excellent, with a beautiful, clear voice and is gifted with accents. It was definitely a highlight to hear this book as well as read it. Worth your time.

Great Writer, Story Is A Bit Predictable
3 AND 1/2 STARSLegendary science fiction writer, Alan Dean Foster, pens this original prequel to the Alien: Covenant movie. I was not bothered as many were who wanted their beloved aliens in the book, but I knew going in what this book was; a corporate espionage story set in the world of Alien. I just wish there was not so many cliches. However, there was a lot of interesting background regarding the Weyland-Yutani company, their history, and the people running it. Many sequences had flashes of real excellence and the pace, for the most part, was fast and lean. While you don't need to read this to understand the movie, it will surely enrich your understanding of the movies and history of the Alien cannon. Events wrapped up a little too neatly for my taste, but I was glad I picked this book up. Light recommendation, but know this is background for Covenant, dealing with Weyland-Yutani, not actual Aliens.

Book offers important back story
Overall I enjoyed this book. The story is more or less corporate intrigue set in the future and very little monster/sci fi action. It helps explain the backstory of some of the humans and I can appreciate the film more now. Its a good idea to read this first before watching the film or the movie novalization.

A Fair (Standalone) Read That Doesn't Further the Movie Plot
Aliens fans will do best to think of this book as an almost standalone science fiction novel only tangentially related to the Aliens genre. At very best, it provides some limited background information on several of the key movie characters--though nothing that furthers your understanding of anything these characters do or say in the Covenant movie itself. That said, I still found this to be a good read with some interesting characters, a couple of fairly original plot developments, and some cleverly employed science fiction devices. The plot itself is not as good as the telling of it, however, with the main story antagonists not having a substantial rationale for the behavior of these otherwise intelligent-seeming individuals. While Covenant is not my favorite Alien movie (DO NOT get me started on the convoluted and completely improbable origin of the Alien species), if you enjoyed the movie you'll get at least some enjoyment from this book.

An iteresting filling the blanks.
This very well written story fills in some of the personalities of the characters in Alien Covenant and gives the reader more interesting details on the Wayland-Yatani Corporation. I enjoyed this extra Alien universe offshoots information immensely.

Enjoyable start to the Alien saga
Foster wrote a very interesting book on the beginning of the Alien saga. The story flows well and Foster's choice of words is very interesting. I have found that there are several words in the English language that I didn't know. However, if a book doesn't help you grow in your own language, then it can hardly be a good book.Having said this, there is one word that Foster may be using too much, "inimical." There are several other words to use in the place of this one.Overall, I am very satisfied with this book.

Background Story of Alien:Covenant
I loved the background story of Earth and the why the Covenant space craft left Earth for colonization in another planet. I literally hated interrupting reading it to do other thing. The group and it's people who tried to sabotage and prevent the Covenant mission was well done, too. Loved this book.

To get you ready for Alien Covenant
This a definitely an appetizer. To get the juices flowing.Considering there isn't any aliens in this book, it's a really good story. It's plot is very well thought out and it gives every character a little more detail that the film might overlook. If you enjoy the alien universe than this thriller is a must.

Fascinating background
Even though it is not as action packed as some of the movies I really enjoyed the information about the Covenant and its crew.

Very boring
I'm waiting for this novel from months, and hoped that Foster will explain the strange destiny of Elizabeth Shaw, or anything happened from Prometheus to Covenant. Nothing of nothing. This is a very boring novel about nothing: can the "Covenant" crew start its space mission? Obviously yes, because we've seen the movie! Bah...

Déçu.
Assez déçu par l'histoire.La trame suit l'avant "Covenant". Je pensais avoir plus d'info sur les membres d'équipages.Au final une histoire banale de terrorisme pré-décollage du vaisseau. Ennuyeux au possible.A déconseiller. Reportez-vous plutôt sur le novélisation de Covenant, dans la même collection.
