The New York Times bestselling author of Reality-Based Leadership rejects the current fad of "engaging" employees and the emotional drama of "meeting their needs"--returning leadership to leaders and productivity to businesses. For years now, leaders in almost every industry have accepted two completely false assumptions--that change is hard, and that engagement drives results. Those beliefs have inspired expensive attempts to shield employees from change, involve them in high-level decision-making, and keep them happy with endless โsatisfaction surveysโ and workplace perks. But what these engagement programs actually do, Cy Wakeman says, is inflate expectations and sow unhappiness, leaving employees unprepared to adapt to even minor changes necessary to the organizationโs survival. Rather than driving performance and creating efficiencies, these programs fuel entitlement and drama, costing millions in time and profit. It is high time to reinvent leadership thinking. Stop worrying about your employeesโ happiness, and start worrying about their accountability. Cy Wakeman teaches you how to hire โemotionally inexpensiveโ people, solicit only the opinions you need, and promote self-awareness in your whole team. No Ego disposes with unproven HR maxims, and instead offers a complete plan to turn your office from a den of discontent to a happy, productive place. Review: Freaking Brilliant and So Clear and Intutive- You'll Wonder Why You Didn't Think of This Yourself - Freaking Brilliant as always! I heard Cy speak at SHRM 2017 and very quickly bought her books and I am applying the (very easy to understand) principles at work. I finished the book this week and it was a series of wonderful revelations. And a lot of the revelations came with validation. I have been skeptical of employee engagement surveys for a long time, stating that they โheld us hostageโ and that โcomplainers are going to complain no matter what we doโ And โwhy are we asking everyone what they think, why donโt we just survey the people who are the best performersโ and โnot all turnover is bad turnoverโ. For this I was told I was a โbadโ HR person. Hearing my thoughts, (expressed so well) was wonderful in making me feel that I am not alone. I have been also using some of the phrases and lessons from the book. When someone starts going on an ego trip, I put the brakes on the bus, and ask, โlets recap the things we know are trueโ. โWhat you are saying is that based on the behaviors exhibited, Jane is not accepting her new realityโ. Asking for peopleโs buy in. I talk about this in meetings and everyone is all, โWow thatโs brilliantโ or โYou handled the situation so wellโ or โThanks for getting the meeting back on track so quicklyโ So I have to say, the SHRM meeting hooked me initially, but now that I am two books in โReality Based Leadershipโ and โNo Egoโ Iโm a #TrueRBLeiver Review: READ WITH YOUR TEAM - Great EASY read! Recommend reading with your team and discussing take aways and lessons learned.

Cy Does it Again...No Ego is a Workplace Game Changer
I have read Cy's books and leveraged her expertise in removing drama in the workplace for more than ten years. Bottom line..it works. As an executive spending a career cultivating cultures from single sites locations to global footprints I have seen a lot...the good, the bad and even ugly. Everyone loves when team work well together, are highly engaged and make things happen. Everyone gets exhausted and weighted down by drama and ego at work and nobody wins. Drama and entitlement consumes, time, energy and has real bottom line financial impact to everyone not just the company. The traditional ways we attempt to change the game simply don't work. Changing long evolved mindset and enabled cultures won't be easy, but it can be done. Cy's books teach us how. No Ego in another dive into the subconscious asking us not to believe everything we think and dive into self reflection and end the story telling that feeds the ego. Even after years practicing and reinforcing what I've learned, my ego needed a tune up. Well done and hats off to Cy for making us better people leaders, colleagues and employees.

Another great resource from Cy
Really enjoyed Cy's latest book! No Ego is full of insights and ah-ha moments with numerous strategies for more effective self management and understanding those around us. If we can put even a portion of her philosophies into practice we can be on our way to a better workplace with less drama and more of what we're actually there to accomplish. Great read!

Mind blowing and brilliant!
After I listened to a third of the book on Audible, I then purchased the hard copy and several of Wakeman's other books. I've already read it several times and shared it with colleagues. I wish I would have read this YEARS ago!

Some good advice and tips for anyone who leads a team.
Recommended by our district manager for us pharmacy managers. As a manager for about 20 years I found 1/3 to be review, disagreed with about 1/3, and found about 1/3 to be insightful.

Work with the willing to bring about greatness!
Again, Cy Wakeman delivers a brilliant, yet simple plan to remove drama from the workplace. Since reviewing the piece in her pre-release book club, I have found several opportunities to implement changes allowing me to lead my team to greatness. Today for instance, a BMW (bitching, moaning, and whining individual) waltzed into my office to go on and on about how another department completely dropped the ball on a project, even going so far as asking how it's even possible they still have a job ... My question to the individual was simple, "Instead of judging them, what are you doing to help?" The realization that the negative energy was not getting them anywhere, allowing us to then discuss what great would look like right now! WOW, a simple redirection quickly remove the drama, and brought about an empowered employee! The ego is not your amigo ... LOVE being a part of the Reality Based Leadership movement!
