A Good Tool To Help Understand And Hopefully Relieve Anxiety
Given that around 31% of people experience "anxiety disorder" in their lifetimes according to the NIH and that may have gone up a bit or a lot over the political and pandemic years of late, this book/journal is something a large part of the population might find helpful.I started out with the "Great Courses" "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" DVD set to explore CBT and see how it can be applied to anything from addiction, anger and all kinds of anxiety be it general, social or something else.It can help some to read books and I think it helps more to be able to watch DVDs with actual patients and a counselor in them in the case of the Great Courses DVD set. While it is great to understand CBT and issues around anxiety, it helps even more to take action. That can be exercising or practicing new social behaviors. It can also involve writing and journaling to put thoughts to paper. That is where this book comes in. It helps you to identify what causes you anxiety, think about it and write about it.This book/journal can help deal with anxiety on its own or be part of something larger that could included the DVD set mentioned above, additional reading about anxiety. Given that it can be challenging or impossible for many people to afford any sort of professional help for dealing with anxiety, this is a very affordable tool that can help you on your journey to understand, deal with and hopefully overcome anxiety.

Helpful
I've had anxiety my whole life, I just didn't know what it was when I was younger. I may have never known if it hadn't eventually landed in the "severe" category, which was (among other things) one of the larger "ah hah!" moments in my life. I used to rely solely on medication, which can be a drag, and my therapist, as tools to work through it. My therapist is great, has given me plenty of advice and tools to work on this, knowing my ultimate goal is to get off the medication. I did vet this through her, she thought it was a great idea, and has had other patients who have been successful utilizing this and other books like it. I will say, this isn't my only book, my results are due to a plethora of sources, and a ton of work on my part. I can say I'm off my meds though, and I still have anxiety, but I can control it now, to an extent.Firstly, this book was helpful in making me confront all the things (large and small) that trigger me. And boy was that list a lot longer than I thought it was. I was able to use this book, its tool and techniques, to pick away at all of those things. I do have to say, no, I still won't go to a movie on opening night. However, I can tell you, I can't deal with movies on opening night because of how many people there are, the noise, the distractions, it's sensory overload to me, and that's before the opening credits even start. The point is, I used to not like opening night, thought it was just the crowd. Now I know, I have a series of things that make me anxious about opening night, and I can address those things to either make it easier to do things I would never do (I took an art class in my new town, without having anyone I knew in attendance. Two years ago, I'd have never done it), or I can recognize I still have some work to do before I can participate in that again. In relation to the art class, where I used to live I'd have dragged one of my more outgoing friends to use as a shield to avoid the attention. Now, I can deal with small groups of people, I don't feel like I'm going to cry if someone asks me a question and everyone looks at me (redefines painfully shy), and I'm making new friends. These are all things that have been super hard for me my whole life. I do have other co-issues, and I'm dealing with those too, and yes it takes a while, but I took a class by myself, without knowing a soul in the room. I'd have called you a big fat liar a couple years ago if you told me that. Now did this book do all of that? No, but this is a massive tool for your arsenal if you have anxiety, and are wanting to learn the ins and outs of what triggers you, techniques to deal with it, etc. Give it a shot, see what happens.

easy to use, but not right for me
I liked the format of the book, which seems straightforward and thought-provoking. I think it will be of use to some people, but it wasn't helpful for me personally. The book is laid out as a series of questions and exercises, with space throughout to record thoughts and experiences. You could also write your responses in your own journal or same aloud to yourself- whatever works best. The language is easy to understand and there are lots of examples. However, I wish it had spent significantly more space actually defining anxiety and helping people understand if that's what they're dealing with. I thought I had anxiety, which is why I got this book, but after working through the first half I'm not sure any more. None of the questions or examples or exercises seemed to apply to me at all. So does that mean I don't have anxiety or that my type isn't covered by the book? Who knows? It is frustrating to work through an interactive book only to slowly discover it doesn't seem to be relevant to my situation.

Wonderfully Written Journal
We all experience some form of anxiety at times but when it's excessive, it can reap havoc on our daily lives. It steals your joy, peace and happiness so when I had an opportunity to order this I didn't hesitate as my daughter is experiencing anxiety. This Journal by Richard S. Gallagher will enable her to express her feelings as communication is vital. I love how it encourages her to write down her thoughts then incorporate coping skills with this 7 weeks journal. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) has been very instrumental in her journey so this book will be helpful in guiding her with strategies and techniques designed specifically for her needs.Anxiety & coping skills are such an important topics to address and I feel that this book will be beneficial to her.

Conceptually important.
This book delves into deeper emotions but gives you a breakaway plan that seems essential for overcoming stress and anxiety. It has a good layout and is not too strenuous of task orientation.

Good idea. Hard to write in .
Because it’s a soft cover book and not very flexible I found it difficult to write when the page was on the left hand side
