Pretty darn good.
I bought this to make Mulled Wine on our winter camping trip. I have made 2 batches of Mulled wine at the house before we go, just to make sure of the recipe I want to use. Mine came mostly whole, not a lot of break-up of the pods...and they are pretty fresh. You can smell the Anise (licorice) scent throughout the house and in the Mulled Wine itself. I use 4 Pods per bottle of wine and warm it all up for about 2 hours. I also bought some Cinnamon Sticks and Whole Cloves that I use with a little orange peal and fresh Stevia Leaves for a sweetener. I am diabetic and Stevia is what I use to avoid sugar. Fresh Stevia leaves look like tea leaves and is much better than Stevia Powder. Anyway, out of all the ingredients I bought for the Mulled Wine, I am most happy with the freshness and taste of these Anise Pods. They are really good. Recommended. - Steve

Wow, these smell amazing and are fresh and good quality!! I originally bought them to add as a decoration on top of handmade soap but they smell so good I am also going to use them for tea and cider as other reviewers have mentioned.
