Silicone contains no carbon, it uses Silicon to form the polymer chains. Silicone is biologically inert, which is why it is used in many implants. There is a small temp sensor in the stainless steel kettle that is sealed with a silicone gasket. No. There is no plastic touching water inside the kettle.

How loud is the kettle when it is heating? I used to have one that was very loud.

The only thing you’ll hear is the sound of boiling water. The actual heating element/system is completely silent. It’s quite incredible.
