2017 two CD collection. SoulMusic Records is very proud to present Prime Time: The Epic Anthology, from the pioneering funk/R&B band Mtume, featuring the group's eleven US charted singles including the classic, 'Juicy Fruit' along with selected album cuts from the team's five Epic LPs as well as three bonus tracks from the sole solo album by female lead vocalist, Tawatha.

THROWBACK THEATER: 1 name, 6 Members, all talent.
Formed by James Mtume, they had that factor that should have made them bigger than they were, because they brought it. They had that funky vibe, they had that ballad vibe, they had that two-step vibe....they had THAT vibe. They took off in the 80's with JUICY FRUIT and maintained their existence to the late 80's, and then they disappeared. This is a two disc set of what they could do and the lead vocals by Miss McGee wasn't nothing but the truth. All powerful and just blasting with harmony...she was clearly the one for this group. Sadly, only diamonds last forever, and then they left. Funky, slow, two-step....they had it all and with this collection, so do we.

Nice
Nice compilation of Mtume's music. James Mtume & Reggie Lucas we're producers in the 70s also, they produced Stephanie Mills' disco anthem "Put Your Body In It". Reggie went on to produce Madonna's self titled album "Madonna" in 1983. Mtume had a lot of great tunes throughout the 80s, their big one being "Juicy Fruit". I personally liked their songs "P.O.P. Generation" and "Green Light" but this compilation has a lot of great songs that are slow and fast tempo. Very good sound quality

FINALLY! Some Juicy Mtume Goodness.
There's a lot of great funk groups that slipped through the cracks when vinyl turned to CD's and they weren't a priority for major record labels. James Mtume and his self-named band deserved better than the few skimpy "best of's" which have popped up. This is the one I've been waiting for years. The only drawback is the second disc goes a little heavy on remixed versions of the band's songs, but that's a small caveat. Prime Time is the most complete and most thorough anthology we've ever had of Mtume and probably the best one we're going to get.

If you like Mtume, this anthology is a must!
I am a huge fan of MTUME and this whole anthology is great. Their sound was one of a kind not to mention the hits.
