Wonderful
Wonderful book, thoroughly engrossing, and magical to be spoken to from nearly 250 years ago, by someone who thought very much as we do today! Highly recommended.

Riveting Read
Love, love, loved this account of Elizabeth Grant's early life. She wrote with a sense of immedicacy that carries across the centuries. Found her sharp observations, descriptions and insights particularly fascinating.

Scots History and Customs
My interest in the history of Scotland brought me to this book. It's both an interesting peek into Scottish history, but also into the social customs, beliefs, and expectations of the late 18th and early nineteenth centuries.

It's great to be able to read how folks lived in such a different era.Looking forward to passing this on to friends.

Highland lady
This is a magnificent example of autobiographical writing, the authoress a remarkable lady, one whose humanity, intelligence, breeding and spirit shine throughout. Her incredibly detailed recounting of her childhood, her family, friends and acquaintances over a 90 year period is a joy to read. That anyone could recall with such clarity, wit and wisdom a lifetime's experiences is quite mindboggling. Each and every place, personage, relationship (and fashion) encountered is described with such verve and warmth as to bring their very recollection joyously to life before our eyes. A truly great read.
