Long Lasting!
I bought and have used this on my car doors over 6 years ago and it has held up nicely. No fading or shredding and has stayed in place perfectly. It comes in a nice long roll-plenty to spare.

Solution for rust concerns
This product worked perfectly for me. After reading other reviews with concerns about rusting, difficulty in cutting and damage caused by this edge guard I can tell you not to worry. Let me tell you the things I did when installing mine. First I cleaned the door edges like the instructions tell you. Then I ran the edging along the outside of the door to get the length and then added about a half inch. Then by marking the spot with the end of my thumb I cut the edging with large (6"-7" handle) diagonal cutters (dikes). I then used my pocket knife and inserted the tip into the end from the side and popped up the metal inside enough to grab it with needle nose pliers and remove it. Next I used a soldering iron and rubbed it over the end where I removed the metal clip. Just enough to close the void where the metal was. Just have a wet rag handy and wipe the iron on it to clean it before setting it down. Now I inserted the blade of my knife into the open side of the edging to re-open it in case it was sealed also by the soldering iron. You can smooth off the end now with your fingers. Next I started with the now sealed end at the top, and with a rubber mallet I pounded it on all the way. I then marked the bottom end with a small piece of masking tape and then removed the edging completely. Now at this point I want to say that there was no damage whatsoever from me doing this, in fact I did this 3 times before I got the length right because it seems to stretch some in the process of pounding it on. So, I removed it completely so I could seal the end as before, but as I moved to the next door I just removed about 6 inches or so just enough to do the soldering iron thing and then pound that back down. All in all pretty simple and I think it looks good, it can't rust and it does what I bought it for. It saves the paint on all 3 of our vehicles on our highly sloped driveway. As you know the doors won't stay half way open on the slope so it's real easy to bang the car next to you.

Truly a High-Quality Product for my Sport Ute!
I've purchased door edge guards from local auto parts stores but their quality left a lot to be desired. After several months in the brutal Florida summer the "chrome" would peel, the ends of the guard would easily come off, the glue would get dirty and drip. Fed up, I went on Amazon where there were a multitude of choices. After reading many reviews I decided to purchase this product. Once it arrived, I noticed its design was superior. The guard is coated with a quite-thick EPDM rubber, but the REALLY cool feature is inside. There are little quarter-inch pieces of U-shaped metal which are segmented throughout the roll (see picture). The metal pieces grip the door edges so no glue is necessary. The roll itself is flexible and quite hefty. I had PLENTY of length for all four doors of my SUV; enough so that when I messed up one door, I had enough re-do it again. As far as the simple installation, I riskily used a small ball-peen hammer (even though the directions advise a mallet) and tapped EVER-SO CAREFULLY, so as not to chip the paint underneath (DON'T use a hammer UNLESS you are willing to accept responsibility for the outcome). After installation I pulled out any extraneous metal segments with needle-nose pliers and then using a toothpick for accuracy, applied ATV Black Gasket Maker to the very ends of the cuts, ensuring the holes got filled completely. Voila! My doors look classy and cool, all at the same time! I've told my co-workers about this product and they seemed willing to give it a try too. BOTTOM LINE: Strongman Tools Door Edge Guards are better than any other guards I've used! I DID NOT RECEIVE THIS PRODUCT FOR FREE AND THIS IS MY HONEST OPINION, just in case you wondered.

great design - someone thought through
Previous door strips did not hold too long, especially after a hot summer (adheasive would leak down and cause a mess). Got this one completely by chance. This one has a thin metal surrounded by rubber. I did not experience that any scratches but I also do not plan to take these off for a long time. One thing that made me write this review is that someone who was designing this strip, thought through. When you cut the strip to length, sometimes the inner metal is exposed, but if you take thin pliers and pull out the metal, then a small section will break off and the metal will no longer be exposed. So I looked into it and the metal sheet is actually pre-cut in small sections (or better word is pre-perforated). This is a great feature and a great job to whoever who thought of doing it. This way you make sure there is no metal exposed, no matter how long or short you cut the strip. For the perfectionists - you can also take a little of liquid electric tape (home depot sells them) and dip the ends of your cut strips. That will completely isolate any inside metal and there will be no rust.I would give it ten stars if glossy black color was available and if they included a tiny jar of waterproof paint/liquid to dip the ends of the strips. Luckily, i had liquid electric tape from a previous project. You only need a tiny amount for the ends.
