It's Cheap And There Are Reasons
It is cheap price wise and there is a reason or more accurately several of them. The "leather" is two layers of something glued together and neither of them seem to be leather. The outer layer is very soft and actually a bit creepy feeling, sort of like rubber. It's very pliable and even the sides where it's two layers thick is "floppy". I don't know what the material actually is but it's not something I would be seen in public with.Inside are two kraft covered notebooks. The lined one, an off white 7mm ruled, is the highlight of the whole deal. Works fine with a moderately wet Platinum fountain pen, stood up to a .35 Pigma Micron marker and various Pilot ball pens. Minimal shadowing, no bleed through and very little feathering. Failed miserably with a Sharpie including ruining the following page so don't do that. The second kraft covered notebook is filled with, guess what, kraft paper. Yes, it looks like someone cut up old grocery bags and made a notebook. I've never seen anything like it but they do exist. It's a lot like writing on fine sandpaper so probably only suitable for use with pencils. Perhaps something got lost in translation when they said "kraft notebook" to the Chinese that made them. But there's more! They threw in another one just like it!All three notebooks are stapled, as in not glued or sewn. I guess it doesn't matter a whole lot as by my count there are only about 36 sheets in the lined one so it won't last long. The notebooks are held in the cover with two elastic strings. Apparently the idea is to have two notebooks in one cover. It would be nice to have a spare but it makes it rather difficult to write when the page is lying on top of another notebook. Not a chance of it lying flat. The "lock" that holds a pen/pencil looks like a good idea. Where it falls apart is it's sensitive to how thick the notebook inside the cover is. Since the "leather" is so floppy, if the contents are just a bit too thick the pencil wants to turn rather than stay parallel to the edge. A three piece "lock" would eliminate this problem.Ah well. I was drawn in by the low price and clever looking lock. Now it goes into the garbage as a $28 lesson learned. If a friend asked me to recommend a leather cover for an A5 notebook I would recommend the Refillable Leather Journal Writing Notebook from Abundance Gifts here on Amazon. It's a first class piece of gear for only $5 more.

Great leather journal cover
I don't understand the negative review. There is nothing cheap about this journal cover except the price. It is made with a good quality smooth leather that feels like suede, It reminds e of florentine leather. It is a rich chocolate color and is stitched with contrast thread. It is a nice supple leather. There are two slip pockets and a midori style elastic on the inside of the book. it can be used with journal cover in the slip pockets or as a midori with the slip pockets used for storage of supplies. It also can be used as both to accommodate 3 booklets or journals/ It comes with 3 booklets, One with cream lined paper and two with kraft paper. The kraft paper is on the thin side, but quite usable for journaling or art, 'It has a pen loop closure and even comes with a coordinating pencil in the closure, it comes nicely boxed for gift giving or storage and a romance card introducing the company SnobTools and a code for a coupon. I think this is a fine leather journal cover made with quality craftsmanship. It is an amazing find at an amazing price. Don't hesitate to purchase.

Just excellent!
This was *exactly* the notebook cover I was hoping existed. Two A5 journals fit comfortably inside. Because they are A5, I know that I'll be able to find refill journals, regardless of manufacturer or seller. The package comes with a pencil that fits nicely into the cover "lock". However, I wanted to keep a pen handy. A bic style pen would fit, but the pen clip would not be a good fit for the leather. Also, many better quality pens are either thicker or have a rubbery grip -- this would preclude them from working in this cover well. I found a set of ballpoints pen that are all metal, with a strong clip, that work well with this journal cover. (They are linked here: Ballpoint Pens, Ace Teah Stainless Steel Retractable Ball Pens Slim Medium Point (1.0mm) Black Ink 5 Pack Silver .)Really, and excellent journal cover.

Good value for the price
I received this a few days ago and it seems a very nice value for the price. I tend to stuff these full so the pencil closure isn't much use, but I purchased a separate strap with pen holders to hold it closed. The pen holder is not large enough to hold a pen, but will hold a pencil just fine. I am not sure about durability yet, but it feels like it will last. It came quickly which was an added bonus!

Functional but not “genuine leather”
For everyday use it is fine. I actually really like it as I can fit both a moleskine planner and notebook in this. I will keep using it. However... it is NOT genuine leather. It appears to have some suede-like material in the inside while outer surface is made is a plasticized material. It will not get that well-worn, broken-in leather feel and look that I was anticipating.I would give it 5⭐️ for size and usefulness, but 1⭐️ for material type.

Great if you buy one- but varies from piece to piece
Nice form factor, good packaging, quality workmanship- if I received one of these as a gift I’d be very excited! Price was good for the quality. Our issue was that we wanted to buy 12 to engrave and give as gifts. The leather finish varied from piece to piece and you can only order 2 at a time, so for a single use these are ideal but not really practical if you’re buying in any sort of quantity.

Just what I was looking for
I was looking for a reusable cover for my journals and I found it. A great look and feel. I used it to cover my hardcover journal and it worked just fine. The closure, locked by a pencil, is perfect. I’ve grown to love this cover.

Impressed. Highly recommend!
I really like this journal cover. I am especially pleased with the quality of the leather and the booklets that were included. The company logo is not obnoxious and gently stamped on the inside front cover. Inconspicuous and high quality. I’ve included several pictures that I had wanted to see before I bought it. I recommend this!
