Works great AND affordable for students
As a student currently in University Halls, this little beauty has enabled me to connect both my PS3 and laptop to the interent simulataneously. Sound simple? It is.Although you need to buy ethernet cables seperately, this consistently maintains a high-speed connection, and for any other students in a similar situation to mine, this is an absolute gem. It's simple, light, effective, cheap and so far I've had no mechanical or technical mishaps. Long may this continue.A few very small issues include a slight whirring, which can be irritating if no other sounds are present in the room. It does have a a basic, plastic feel, but considering I paid less than 7 quid for it, it certainly doesn't warrant a complaint. Finally, I suppose technically it is only possible to hook up 4 components, as one of the ports is taken up by the etherent cable connected to the router/modem. Other than that, it works superbly and suits me perfectly.Don't pay more for similar products, as this is absolutely fine and I can't imagine anything else having any significant advantages. Superb.Haz.

Works brilliantly and such great value
This is a brilliant gadget that splits the Ethernet supply to other devices. I have a smart TV which allows me to watch iPlayers and YouTube etc. I then bought a YouView box and plugged into the TV and then suddenly realised that that needed access to the router too ... which was a problem because I only have one ethnet socket in the lounge. So I did a little research and this gadget appeared to split the supply, had great reviews and appeared such great value. If I'm honest, I really didn't know whether this would work, but decided to order anyway. The item was delivered very promptly, with Amazon's usual efficiency and I have to say, it works a treat! It's only the size of ... remember those old audio cassette boxes? ... well, about as big as one of those? (Kids, ask a grown up!)It comes with a power supply. That surprised me because I don't think he description makes this clear, although when I think about it, it's pretty obvious that it would have one. Oh yes, if you do order one of these, make sure you have Ethernet cable ... this doesn't come with any.Overall, a fab product which is so easy to set up and as I've said above, great value for money. Don't pay any more!

No issues whatsoever
I bought one of these because I have several components that plug into my TV that can be connected to the internet/home network (Freesat box - for iPlayer, media streamer - to share media over my network and blu-ray player too). Since I only have one potential Ethernet cable from my router, I obviously needed an Ethernet switch to make it possible to hook all three up.As one would expect of an Ethernet switch, it's a connect-the-wires-and-power-up jobby. It works just fine, doesn't run too hot and auto-detects whether to run at 10 or 100mbps (although I'll be amazed if anyone is running at 10mbps these days).People ought to bear in mind that you should really only use Ethernet switches for devices that don't all simultaneously need lots of bandwidth when connecting to other devices on your network. Every device plugged in to your switch has to share a total of 100mbps of bandwidth because they all use the same common cable to hook up to your router (or wherever else it goes). In my case, although my media streamer can be fairly intensive (up to 50mbps), generally iPlayer is no greater than 2mbps and the blu-ray player only uses the link to download firmware updates, so even if I were using all three at the same time, they wouldn't max out the connection. As an example, I would never connect a NAS server to a switch: the whole point of network storage is that it needs all the bandwidth it can get and could potentially have several demands from different computers at the same time. One should try and plug in bandwidth-hungry devices as high up the network as possible (i.e. as close to your router as possible). This effect would be reduced if you use a gigabit Ethernet network (because there's 10x more bandwidth available). Also, these switches can be daisy-chained. In theory, the number you can daisy chain is limitless, but in practice you'll see higher latencies and eventually signal degradation. (Although this effect will occur well beyond the needs of the typical home user.)Overall it's a solid purchase. I went for the 8-port switch over the 4-port because the price difference was about a pound and the extra ports offer me more expandability in the future.

just what was needed
I must say the item that arrived is not the one pictured here, but is exactly the same. So, on to the review...I needed a way to get Ethernet to my home cinema system without breaking the bank on wifi dongles. So I found a 10m Ethernet cable and this little guy and strung the cable from my router (sky) to the input on this hub and then cables to telly, sky box and blue ray. Super easy!Everything works just like it should. No bottlenecks, lots of unsightly wires behind TV cabinet but that is the wired way. For £10 including 10m cable I scored here! You would do well to go this route if you have the other half's permission and don't want to spend loads on dongles... well recommended, just 4*'s though as the item received is not the item listed, but pretty much exactly the same. Oh, the power plug is UK and for some weird reason the plug on the box is on the side... its pretty small and you can wall mount it as well. Seems to be a keeper.

Works fine, easy to install and small enough to not be in the way
Does exactly as intended, connected 2 cash registers together, and this was cheaper to buy with 100 feet of cable and a short patch cable, than buying or trying to make a crossover cable...

NOT redundant power supply
This is NOT a redundant power-supply switch (misleading rear photo).Only one power line.

Affordable and does the job
I've been needing a network switch for a while now. My internet plan offers decent speeds, but I was tired of devices fighting for bandwidth, especially during peak hours. After some research, I decided to go with the TP-Link 5 Port 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Switch, and I'm happy to report that it's been a great addition to my home network.**Setup was a breeze.** The switch is truly plug-and-play. I simply connected it to my router and then plugged in my devices (computers, gaming consoles, smart TV) to the switch's five ports. No configuration was needed, and everything worked seamlessly right out of the box.**Performance has been noticeably improved.** Downloads are faster, online gaming is smoother, and video streaming is uninterrupted. The 100 Mbps speed might not be the latest gigabit technology, but it's a significant upgrade from my previous setup and more than enough for my needs.**I also appreciate the compact design.** The switch is small and lightweight, so it fits easily on my desk without taking up too much space. It also runs silently, which is a plus since it's located in my living room.**Here are some additional points that I like:*** **Auto-MDI/MDIX:** This means I don't need to worry about using crossover cables, which simplifies things even further.* **Energy-efficient:** The switch uses less power than traditional unmanaged switches, which is good for the environment and my wallet.* **Affordable:** I found the TP-Link switch to be very budget-friendly, especially considering its performance and ease of use.**Overall, I'm very pleased with the TP-Link 5 Port 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Switch.** If you're looking for a simple and affordable way to expand your home network and improve your internet speeds, I highly recommend this product. It's been a reliable and hassle-free solution for me.**Just a few things to keep in mind:*** This switch only offers 10/100 Mbps speeds, so if you have a gigabit internet plan, you'll need a different model.* It's an unmanaged switch, which means you don't have any advanced configuration options. If you need more control over your network, you'll need a managed switch. But for most home users, this TP-Link switch is a great option. It's easy to use, delivers noticeable performance improvements, and is very affordable.
