Accurate
Used to check color variance on printing substrates, this tool is a must. Great reporting after scans to show detailed data!

Accurate Data
Works for color matching, with giving color values. Sometimes it has to update more frequently than I thought but always provides accurate data.

Don't
Buy one. It works very well up to 3 months. It stopped recharging the battery and connecting to the cell phone, making it completely useless. I bought a second unit thinking I had bad luck with the first one. Exactly the same thing happened.

Not accurate enough
I'm using this to archive the visual perceived color of animation cel paint, and the result is a mix. For the observation test setup I have a D65 LED lamp placing about 2 feet above the cel. First I made a scan of the cel, and then colors of the cel were measured separately with Spectro 1, then the measured lab values were used to replace the corresponded color on the scanned image. Then I visually compare the actual cel to the image on my calibrated monitor. From my observation, the apparent darker color were spot on, colors like red, brown, green, yellow green match the real thing. However, brighter colors such as orange, light green and light purple all have visible differences in brightness and saturation. And colors like pink, turquoise blue, turquoise green and violet all have a visibly wrong hue. So overall, I love the build quality of the device, but it is just not accurate enough for the price.

Good reader!
This works well for me! Didn't realize you'd need to pay for a prescription to store the color results but that's okay for what I need it for. Apps pretty easy.

Comparable to X-Rite Spectrophotometers
Ran a Gage R&R study on this device vs an X-Rite Ci62. This was as repeatable as the Ci62. In terms of reproducing the same color reading, it measured within a DE2000 of 0.5. For $300 I am incredibly impressed. The software app is very easy to use as well with databases for the big brand paint suppliers for color matching for your everyday homeowner. On the professional side, they do give an open API in case you want to integrate it into color matching software. I just wish there were already simple access or excel import methods you could quickly download and use in seconds. My only con is they provide the numerical value in all color spaces which is great however, the reflectance curve is in a graph only and I have not found a way to get the individual 10nm values from that curve.

Stopped working after 1 use
Worked great when it arrived. Really like the software and the ease of use. Calibration tiles were a nice feature. I went to use it a couple weeks later and could not get it to link to my phone. Tried to erase and re-pair it. Nothing. Seller returned for a full refund so I'm happy.
